I thought I'd lost my little girl

Oh wow. I’m so glad bug is okay hugs

In your situation posting in the ‘wrong’ place is beyond insignificant.

I have no daughters of my own, But I have nieces, and I love them enough to panic if something is wrong with them. For this reason I sympathise with the OP

Yeah, I think I’m ok.

I pray I never have something so terrifying happen to me. I have a feeling something like that would send me into a panic attack requiring a second ambulance. Sounds like you stayed reasonable cool under the pressure.

I’m also wondering if this is something that may happen again, or if it’s something that is so rare you’ll likely never see it again?

I’m so glad everything turned out okay. Please don’t beat yourself up for what could have been, everything turned out fine and on some level you WERE listening to the EMTs.

Best to you and your family.

I’m glad to hear she’s okay now, Scylla, and I’m sorry you had to go through that.

I don’t have children of my own, but when I was about two I choked on one of those little chocolate footballs. Turned purple, the whole nine yards. My mom and grandmother played “scream and pass the kid around” for a minute until my dad grabbed me from them, held me by an ankle, and smacked me in the back but good. Out popped the football and I’m here to type about it.

I don’t actually remember a thing personally…that’s all from Family Tradition.

Good Lord, that’s terrifying! I’m so glad everything turned out well.

What a relief. Thank God she’s okay, Scylla!

I had a moment similar to your’s when kiddoeaddi was a year old. She’d somehow peeled off and inhaled a piece of window shade. My feeble attempt at CPR couldn’t dislodge it, but thankfully the fabulous and quick EMT guys could. That was 18 years ago and I’m shaking just thinking about it. I don’t envy you your last few hours.

My very best wishes to you and your family.

Wow, I’ve never even heard of a febrile seizure. I would have made the EXACT same assumption, Scylla, but I would have gone and sliced away because here the EMT won’t arrive in time. I also carry a razor-sharp pocket knife everywhere I go, so it would be my first line of thought.

I’ve taken adult CPR, but never a child CPR course, in fact, I don’t even know if they offer them here.

My 3-yr old daughter gets a special hug from daddy tonight.

Thanks QtM for driving home the point of breathing for them.

When my daughter was an infant, I used to tiptoe into her room at night to listen to her breathe. I honestly don’t know what I’d have done if I’d encountered a situation like this! And I’d had child CPR a couple of times…

Glad there was such a happy ending! Hugs to you and yours!

OK, I read this thread before the first reply, but couldn’t figure what to say.

Now with a few drinks down my gullet, I’ll admit the OP brought a tear to my eye as well.

That’s got to be freaking HELL ON EARTH, Scylla.

I don’t have any kids, but to me it’s one more reason to forego that joy. You should have seen me when my cat ate a piece of yarn and couldn’t shit it out properly.

I have tons of respect for you.

Ditto 100%

Scylla, I’ve read your OP several times since last night and am still at a loss about what to say. I’m so glad Bug is OK and so proud of your older daughter for speaking right up when she noticed something was wrong.

Scylla , not only did you do a wonderful thing for your family, but for mine as well. I’ll be dragging my husband to an infant CPR class ASAP.
I’m still feeling lightheaded from just reading your account.

Scylla I’m glad Bug is okay. Your oldest daughter and you are heroes. Good job listening to the EMT and staying on the phone til help arrived. I can’t even imagine what was going through your mind and your wife’s mind at the time. Good job 'yall! Go get some sleep.

I am very releived to hear that Bug is ok.
Now the bigger question, are you going to buy yourself a Barbie Jeep for such heroic actions? (Cause that would be perfect for you.)

How horrible for you and your family! I’m glad Bug is ok.

Ditto, ditto, ditto.

I cannot imagine any more terrifying words than “the baby’s not breathing!”

I cannot imagine any words better than “OK, now she is”.

Thanks be to God.

Regards,
Shodan

If I may take advantage of your truly scary experience - here is a link to the BBC Health site that has lots of interactive First Aid scenarios that you can do at your leisure. I have placed a link on our work website and we encourage evryone to have a look. Here it is.

Well done to you and your family, everyone had an opportunity to do the wrong thing and neatly sidestepped it.

Don’t forget to mention every once in a while to older daughter that Bug is alive because of how smart she was.

So relieved that your little one is OK.
