…but apparently Chicago’s mayor Daley thinks it is a fact, and in particular gun dealers should have this mystical ability.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Mayor Daley is proposing a law that would make it illegal to “sell guns without taking reasonable precautions to ensure they are not used illegally.” It would also permit victims of gun violence to sue gun dealers if they “knew or should have known” that the buyer of the gun was planning on using it in a crime.

No different than making a bartender responsible for a sot’s first drink in his bar. It’s not all that easy to prove, but if five people say the bartender saw the soon-to-be-drunk-drive stumble in and slur his words, and still get one more for the road, then the DA has a case.
