I’m sad I missed it. And also sad he got banned. Maybe I’ll pull a Simple Linctus and PM a mod to consider lifting the ban? I mean sure he was a spam peddler and all… but he did come back and respond to the thread at least a handful of times

And yes, it’s true that we’ve taken pains not to give extra attention to trolls- I didn’t think this qualified since the guy seemed to be such an obvious troll anyway. I know Lynn Bodoni sometimes talks about the one time she gave a similar title to another poster (I think he was deemed “too stupid to live”) and that we don’t want to create a situation where jerks try to top each other to get the mods to make up funny titles for them. But I also thought that was a one-off, it was harmless.
I really wish everyone would quit JOSHing around. This is serious.

Marley, the reasons you’ve given for not doing things like this are good, and not making it a habit/pattern is excellent. I agree that because it’s kind of a random, infrequent thing, and the subject matter for this troll was particularly hilarious, that there was nothing wrong and that in the long run it’s not going to encourage more trolls.
But I agree with your reasons for reversing the decision. Sometimes, we just can’t have nice things
