My boyfriend (my husband now) 38 at the time…was leasing a huge log home near a lake from a friend who had bought the house as an investment but had never actually seen it. He was leasing it to him for cheap so he could do the upkeep on it. Well strange things started happening. The first strange thing was the cold spots. I mean FRIGID cold spots. Then the lights started going off and on. Sometimes when we were there, sometimes we would leave a light on and it was off when we got back.
One time we came home and every cupboard and drawer in the kitchen was open. Three different people said they saw something out the guest bedroom window (on the third floor). One guy who rented the basement SWEARS a woman touched him while he was sleeping. Alone. So we started to check around. In the basement (fully finished) in the far corner you could barely see unless you looked hard. There was a door frame or what looked like there should have been a door there but there wasnt. There were nails riveted completely around the door area. Both my boyfriend and I got the willies and decided we did not like that. We would hear music from the basement all the time in the middle of the night. The basement was EMPTY - not even used for storage. Here is the end of the story … We had a male german shephard dog. One night my boyfriend was out of town. I was in bed, the dog on the floor right beside the bed. All of the sudden the dog gets up and walks out of the bedroom and lays down outside the bedroom door. I got up, and tried to get him to come back in the room -this very obedient dog- refused to budge even with me pulling him. I gave up and went back to bed. About the time I got situated I looked over and from out of the walk in closet a large black shape of a woman who appeard to be holding a club or something ghosted out of the closet towards the bed, she went to the end of the bed and along the bottom. When she got to the far end I JUMPED out of bed and flipped on the light. The dog got up, came in the bedroom and lied down by the bed where he was before. Fkng creeeeeped me out. I never believed much in ghosts before then but I do now. Also, the people that I mention above were all individuals who did not know one another, and told us what they saw before we ever said anything to them about the fact that other people had seen that too in that room. We finally asked the banker who financed the sale to my boyfriends friend. He said a man built this log home for his wife and before it was completely finished she “ran off with another man”. We think she is behind that door in the basement! After we moved out we heard the house went through 3 new owners in 3 years. We never have heard if those folks saw her but we are thinking that they did. I told this story to my dad, who is a scientist type and knows I dont lie about stuff…he saw my fear and what he told me is that all he has heard about ghosts is if they exist, they probably can’t physically hurt you. I sure hope that is true. I swear to you all. This totally happend and I am glad I am not in that freaking house any more.
Yeah right.
Of Course!
Can someone please direct Randi to this woman!
We have a winner!
People who have not had any kind of supernatural experience often have dificulty believing those who have. Many will not even consider the possibility, even from someone they know to be otherwise truthful.
I vote hallucinations based on carbon monoxide poisoning, or some other chemical or environmental issue.
Hon. Please. Paragraphs.
Ya know, I almost made this exact post about 10 minutes before you did, Marley…but I resisted temptation.
I would have expected more from an Administrator…
I, for one, am glad it came from an admin.
If someone I know told me they’d seen a ghost, my first guess would be that they were completely wrong, not that they were lying.
I bet you won’t make that mistake again.
What’s there to “yeah, right” about? The OP tells us that a poorly-maintained old house acts like a poorly-maintained old house, and that she once had a rather vivid dream. Neither of those is at all hard to believe. But I will say that you should call in an electrician to check out that wiring: Lights spontaneously turning off or on can be a symptom of some very dangerous wiring problems.
The OP said she doesn’t live in that house anymore, so by now it’s either probably been repaired or burned to a cinder. And I agree there’s nothing weird about parts of a house being colder than others.
Thanks, Eve - I was actually able to read that when it wasn’t wall-o-text.
I can explain a lot of that with something that happens to me fairly regularly - hypnagogic hallucinations. I see things on the border of sleeping and waking often - sometimes people coming into my bedroom, or mice in my bed - things like that. Seeing a woman coming out of my closet would not surprise me at all.
I wouldn’t dismiss everything as being explainable; I am open to the possibility of supernatural things because I don’t know everything. I think most things do have a mundane explanation, though.
If the wife ran off with another man, why is she in the basement?
I think the inference, Cicero, is that the husband killed the wife and buried her in the basement. Her having run off with another man was a red herring for those thinking her absence was fishy.
So what happens in the rest of the novel?
NaNoWriMo is off to a good start!
Swamp gas. Or a weather balloon.
I believe you, OP.
I believe in the supernatural, though, so it’s not all that “out there” for me.
I’d have called a priest, but that’s just me …
So he rented the basement and slept there but there was nothing in it?
You decided you did not like the nails riveted around the door area, or you decided you did not like the willies?
I am so confused.
mmm
