I totally know a rock star.

Shibb totally looks like James Carville, but cuter.

Hell, Todd Rundgren - by any definition a rock star - only has 432,000 plays on his Myspace page. Give Vienna her props.

Seen her a few times.

I love Vienna Teng. I listen to her all the time. She’s very cool, and I’m kind of envious.

Vienna’s a total sweetheart. Many years ago we were on the same mailing list (neither of us are on it anymore) but I didn’t meet her until she toured with her Waking Hour album. I was excited to finally meet her, but surprisingly, she was just as excited to finally meet me! Such a dear, and oh so talented!

For those who haven’t heard her beautiful voice and piano, treat yourselves:

“Harbor” (one that people might have heard in various places, such as on Letterman)

“Gravity” (the official video)

“Drought”

“Lullaby For A Stormy Night”

“Passage” (very intense, from the point of view of a car crash victim)

“Green Island Serenade” (sung in Mandarin, not Taiwanese as it says in the description)

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (Noe Venable cover)
A live clip where the audio isn’t the greatest, but I love this because Vienna is covering another one of my favorite artists, Noe Venable. Here is the breathtaking original.

FTR, she played these songs, but not in this order:

Harbor
Gravity
In Another Life
Antebellum
The Last Snowfall
Augustine
No Gringos
Grandmother Song
Stray Italian Greyhound
Blue Caravan
City Hall
1Bedroom/1Bath
Whatever You Want

and a cover of Radiohead’s “Idioteque”

I know John Mellencamp and my sister and I were in the music video for his song Your Life Is Now.

Vienna Teng is amazing. She’s a rock star in my book; she’s the sort of performer who ought to be at the top of the charts, writing and performing her own music without all the showbiz! nonsense. She’s the anti-BritneyGagaMadonnaChristina.
