Have you met your favorite artist/band?

I became a Who fan in 76 and met them backstage in 97. It was unexpected , a guy gave me the backstage pass right before the concert.

Have not met any other of my favs such as Weezer and OAR.

My OP in the link below describes how I got to meet Kesha:

Yes. Met Tom Waits at a small reception last year, got to talk to him and Jim Jarmusch about the intersection and relative importance of music vs. film. (Also got to talk to a half-dozen others, but he and Kathleen were the ones I attended to meet.)

I don’t think I’ve ever met ANY really famous musician, let alone one of my idols.

I dreamed I was Mozart’s wife once. Does that count?

Another Who fan here. I had a chat with Simon Townshend after a solo show. Really nice guy. He talked about his upcoming gig opening for Heart’s Canadian tour-- in winter, on a bus. He wasn’t looking forward to freezing his ass off.

I’m not sure I’d want to meet Pete–I’d probably get tongue-tied and blurt out something stupid.

I’ve mentioned before that I met and talked to Dave Brubeck, whose quartet was my introduction to jazz in the 60s.

He used to play regularly at a venue near Sacramento, where I had some ins and connections, and I wish I’d gone to see him and pulled a few of those strings when I had the chance. I think* Take Five* would be the one album I grab if I have to flee Earth.

I came close to meeting Stevie Wonder , I dated a guy that was friends with Stevie and my b/f and I went to see him play at a benefit . After Stevie was done my b/f went back stage to talk to him but I couldn’t go b/c Stevie was going to the men’s room . My b/f was a Blues singer and also knew Tony Matthews
and the 3 of us had lunch together in LA.

Yes. In the 90s I met and became actual friends with the Squirrel Nut Zippers. I remain friends with two of the members but they’re no longer in the band.

I met and was friendly with Ben Folds Five but that waned after a few years.

I got some autographs from the Mighty Might Bosstones at a Lollapalooza. That was just an autograph table tho.

Haven’t met any of my current favorite artists.

I’ve played with Annie Haslam’s toes - does that count?

I met him in Moscow when it was the USSR. Nice guy.

Yeah, met all the members of DBT over the years, and here is the story of how I ended up in the artwork of their latest live album
[QUOTE=Me]

Went to see my favorite band last night in Sacramento. Swung by the merchandise table early, and saw the one and only copy of the 3 CD live album they recorded in November last year over three nights at The Fillmore. I went to two of the shows. Only $20 for a 3 disc deluxe box set. I’m the cheapest bastard alive and even I thought that was a good deal. I grabbed it! Stuck it in my back pocket and watched the show…

Got home late that night (400 mile round trip). Went pretty much straight to bed (minus Dog nonsense). Unloaded the car in the morning. Carefully removed the plastic wrap from the CD set. It was a fancy “double fold”, where you open it like a book, then open the two flaps outward, so you have a 4 panel spread, to hold 3 CD’s and a liner note booklet.

I open it up, and the first thing I see is a picture taken from the left side of the stage, showing the band. And BANG! Right there in the front is clearly ME! Recognizable, unmistakable, ME!

Well, that is fucking cool…

Then I get into the 24 page liner note booklet. Nice stuff. Good commentary from the band, photos and artwork. Then I get to the “centerfold”. The biggest, two page photo of the whole book…

And BANG! There I am AGAIN! ME! Right up fucking front, full on in the picture! Again, unmistakably fat ugly ME!

I now belong to the ages…

I guess my favorite is probably Tommy Makem (he’s the most-played on my iTunes), and yes, I’ve met him. He used to be a regular at Cleveland’s annual Irish Cultural Festival, until he died. Very personable and friendly fellow, always happy to chat with fans.

I met my favorite band Toto last summer. Really great guys!! I hope to again this summer!

Not really meet, and not absolute favorites, but a couple interesting brushes with musicians I like.

After a P.D.Q. Bach concert when I was in college, I hung around with a friend of mine while he got Peter Schickele to record a station ID for our campus radio station. It was arranged in advance; not like we stalked him.

There was a folk trio from Seattle that I discovered only after they had broken up. The front man, Andrew Ratchin, even formed his own very small record label. That was before the internet era. I looked them up online a few years later and their website said he’d discovered some boxes of cassettes of some of their earlier, rare recordings, so I ordered a few. A couple weeks later my phone rings and it’s him. He couldn’t remember if he’d sent my order and was calling to ask if I’d got it. He said he’s send another and if I wound up with two that was fine. They’ve since done some reunion gigs and I said hello.

John McLaughlin, with an electric band, Royce Hall, early "80s IIRC. He made frequent use of that midi guitar at that point.

Post-show, people were stuffed into a hall that turned out to be the artists’ dressing rooms (oops!), so we all got herded out until they got freshened up/toweled off/whatever.

So got in a line to press the flesh, and naturally I blurted out something embarrassingly stupid along the lines of “My life is now complete!” and “When are you getting Shakti together again!?”

He was gracious yet diffident. Poor guy.

Jonas Hellborg, the bassist, stole the show though.

Met Dionne Warwick when she was still singing backup with the Drifters. She was the only person backstage who wasn’t passing drugs around.

A couple of really nice shobiz people were Mel Tillis and Duane Eddy.

I met my favourite bands while they were my favourite bands, and most of them ended up being kind of dicks.

In the early 1990s, I was a big fan of a band called King’s X that achieved middling success and AFAIK still exists. They were playing at a bar in my area and were walking around talking to people. I got to meet the singer and the drummer, and had my picture taken with the drummer.

Good show, too.

p.s. There were pre-teen children running around in this 21-plus bar; I found out later that two of the band members had siblings living in that city, and they were there with their families.
