Chicago Hope. I hated ER but loved Chicago Hope. Now, I have to admit ER was the better show, even if I never liked it all that much.
Law and Order. I couldn’t get enough of that show. Now, my cable is plagued by repeats on at least three channels.
People actually mistakenly thought that he’s a “fantasy” writer?
Not only does he state in his author’s notes that yes, it’s fantasy, but is not supposed to in any way be taken for anything other than the silliness it is (paraphrased of course), the stories themselves are so obviously meant to be nonsensical lighthearted fun! Whoever would mistake those (even teens) for serious fantasy writing?
Though I have to admit, I didn’t start reading them until well into adulthood (so maybe teens could be fooled), and I never took them for anything other than just lighthearted silly fluff to pass the time.
This. I even turned one of my friends onto Anthony back in the day and several years later she asked if I’d read some book or other of his and I was like “Gah, what was I thinking, he sucks”
Brains and scrambled eggs. Ate a lot as a kid.
Too much fat. I got tired of my gf’s negative comments. She didn’t like see them in the kitchen. She loves bacon & it all comes from the same pig.
They still sell them. brains yumm

The only CD I’ve ever been ashamed of owning (to give you an example of the type of thing I’m not embarrassed about, I still genuinely enjoy listening to ‘MMMBop’) is a Good Charlotte single called ‘The Anthem’. All my other childhood CDs, from the Spice Girls to S Club 7 and back again, they’re all on my iTunes and out on my shelves with the rest of my music collection, but that Good Charlotte single, that shit is bad. Banished to the back of the closet, forever.
I also read Piers Anthony as a kid.
My taste in music when I was in junior high or so was pretty questionable. Mariah Carey, Ace of Base? Oh, the early 90s. brb pegging my pants.
The movie Repo Man. I just loved it when it first came out and saw it several times. I tried to watch it about 10 years ago and was wondering what I ever saw in the movie. I still have fond memories of the movie but now know enough to not watch it again.
Uh, who said anything about “serious” fantasy writing?
There’s “lighthearted silly fluff” and then there’s absolute rubbish. Around about age 14 my opinion of Piers Anthony shifted from the former to the latter.
I loved the show Facts of Life when I was a teenager and then didn’t see it again for many years (it’s not that popular in syndication). When I did it was a “WTF was I thinking?” revelation: mediocre all around.
circus animals (the cookies)
I realize that this probably wasn’t a draw for you personally, but to me, (back then an 11 or 12 year old kid), both Nancy McKeon (“Jo”) and Lisa Whelchel (“Blair”) were pretty dang hott back then, at least to my eyes, when I was probably about 5 or 6 younger than those two fine actresses…
What immediately came to mind was Three’s Company. I thought this show was HILARIOUS as a preteen/early teen (not exactly the target audience). Then I caught a show in recent years, and…well, wow. Horr-i-ble. Painfully so. But, John Ritter is still cool in my book.
Other shows just OMG awful to me now that I loved then (I was between 10-14 for all of these):
Knight Rider
Murder, She Wrote
Diff’rent Strokes
Facts of Life
Music-wise, I really liked Christian pop back in the late 80s/early 90s. :::shame::: I loved Michael W. Smith and went to two of his concerts…then I happened across his Go West Young Man album recently, had a nostalgic listen, and UGH. Pop synthesizer confection, as was most of the genre at time. (I do still like Jars of Clay, though.)
Oh, good reminder. I also vote for Piers Anthony and “Law and Order”.
Songs?
You mean they had another song besides Stairway to Heaven?
I thought PICA was just when you ingest things that are not meant to be eaten, like chalk or metallic objects.
I saw Care Bears: The Movie in the $2 bin at Walmart a few years ago. I remember watching that as a little kid. Figured it had to be pretty bad for $2 to be too high a price for childhood nostalgia. It was.
Problem is, I can’t bring myself to get rid of it so any time anybody looks through my DVD collection I always catch a bunch of crap for it.
I was totally in love with Shawn Cassidy.
I’ve had lesbian friends who thought Jo was an early icon for them and felt a bit betrayed when she fell in love with a guy on the show.
