I Walked Out On My Job Today

Motorcycles are great for making dramatic exits, aren’t they?

Sounds like you have someone who can write a recommendation for you. You’ll land on your feet, I just know it.

Good for you! I had a similar threadrecently myself about that kind of thing and it has all turned out to be sunshine and tulips since then. You did the right thing, I promise.

Thanks, everyone! I really, really appreciate the support and comments.

This is exactly what I was waiting to say! I got fired from Hell about a year and a half ago. I get tons of satisfaction when I realize that I will never have to see them again, and hope the firm goes down in flames. I was unemployed exactly two days when I found this job, where I am blissful. Alice, I hope you are as lucky as I was.

Doubt you’ll be eligible for unemployment, but if you can find a job within a week, it’ll be a moot point.

Think about what you’ll say to prospective interviewers about why you left your current firm after 10 years. You don’t want to be baited into a discussion about your personality conflicts.

Alice The Goon, whats your profession?

You must have missed it earlier in the thread:

I am going to be so mad if the Sparta joke is passed up.

Hey – just caught this.

As probably one of the only ones here (only one maybe?) that’s actually sat across a drink with you and heard some of the tales firsthand, allow me to give you the Great Hug of Encouragement and Platitudes.

You rock Alice, here’s hoping something happens good for you very fast!

Walking out of a job I hated is one of the happiest moments of my life. Not having to see any of those idiots was the gift that kept on giving.

Congratulations Alice The Goon.

Congratulations and good luck!

I walked out of a job during the slowdown of 93. Great disapproval from family, but it was 100 percent the right thing to do.

there’s a reason for that expression,
they will-

give your prospective employers,
a bad recommendation

Nah, no worries there. Their policy is never to say anything about an employee except to confirm the dates of hire and termination. Besides, I do good work, and I know that they can’t even lie about that. We all know I’m good at what I do.

You’re not unemployed, you’re FUNemployed. Enjoy your time away from teh crazy and good luck with the job search.

I did the same thing once, and I thought I would barf before I said it. After I said it, I thought I would dance!

Word. Fuck bridges. I blow UP bridges! And I don’t worry about tomorrow, either. I’ll cross that …bridge…when I uh, get to it.

Ha, yes, fun. I’ve mostly stopped crying, although I have taken to my bed for the most part. I have eaten a breakfast bar since yesterday. I don’t feel good about not having a job (but I do feel good about not going back to that job). I’m wallowing right now, but I think by the weekend I’ll be feeling better. I do have a feeling that the next thing will come along quickly and will be loads better than the last thing. That’s how it usually works.

That was to EJsGirl- I shall think of you next time I dance.

Fist-bump to Nzinga. (Or am I too old to do that?)

Yep.

I quit my workplace of 8+ years this month. I had found another job with astonishing ease, and gave my two weeks’ notice. There were some days I would have loved to just walk out. Still, leaving was the right thing to do, I am sure of it.

Good vibes for a new job, and enjoy not feeling sick to your stomach as you head into the office every morning. Been there, done that. And the injustice. I don’t miss the unfairness and injustice at all.

Plus, my new job has a window. An hour for lunch. Breaks. And nice people!

May you land someplace happy and rewarding, where you are valued.

I think this is the first post by you that I have seen that actually makes any semblance of sense.

You’re usually so…cryptic…

…that nobody knows what to think of you.
