I’ve never been hunting before. I own 3 rifles though. Just got them. A custom .22-250, a full-custom BR rig, and a really nice Ruger 77 in .30-'06. I recently went to PA for my first 1,000yard Benchrest match. While there, I asked about hunting. I found out I could spend considerably less than I would in Texas. For less than the cost of getting land access here in the Lone Star State, I could fly to PA, get an out-of state license, have the deer processed and shipped to me at home.

I don’t need any assistance in this, I just wanted to share this Mundane Pointless Stuff.

I’m also getting darn tired of the darn antis. Got a problem with it? Tell me about in the BBQ Pit. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, I just want some deer steak. Which means I have to go hunting or sweet talk another hunter into handing over part of theirs.

Well, sweet thiang, you just bring you and your steak ( alot of it) up to Stillwater and I’ll fix it the way God intended. Fried with mashed taters, gravy, fresh green beans from the garden, cornbread, iced tea, and something really fattening for dessert. :).

I live in PA. I have put down my trusty Winchester .30-06 which has been the bain of many a deer.

I am now strictly a bow and arrow deer hunter (haven’t gotten one this way yet.)

I don’t think I’ve ever had deer, except maybe when I was too little to remember. Except for the time I had deer jerky which was way too spicy!

One of the greatest movie goofs of all time. Did you ever see “The Deerhunter”? I have failed to find snowcapped mountains as depicted anywhere in PA. But I would love to.

Backstrap jerky is ambrosia to me, no spices needed.

Guinastasia, venison (deer meat) is far better than beef–and better for you, too, since it is very low fat. So low fat, in fact, that you have to addfat if you want to grind it into hamburger–otherwise it’s too dry.

Yummmmm. Anyone ever have summer sausage made from deer or elk?

My hunter friends moved away from Colorado, & I haven’t had elk or venison since. I’ve never hunted, but I’m a pretty fair shot at the range. If anyone wants to take me hunting, I’m game! [sub]Pun intended.[/sub]

I do believe the hunting season (in Colorado) will open this fall. Let’s go kill something!

Schwanzong, I am moving to Michigan next month…another big hunting state. I’m hoping to find someone who will show me the ropes, though. My SO collects exotic firearms, but isn’t too fond of hunting.

I figure as long as I eat meat, it’s more ethical to eat something that’s had a good life already right up until I kill it. :slight_smile:
