I want a Bunnicula movie

My four-year old developed an obsession with scary things (thanks, Scooby-Doo), and I thought he might enjoy the Bunnicula book series, which I remember being pretty awesome.

Well, I was right, and as I re-read these stories, I’m wondering why they never made it onto film. I’ve seen some references to animated or made for TV versions (maybe one and the same) from the early 80’s, but I don’t know if they are currently available on VHS or DVD.

If Hollywood can make a feature out of Where The Wild Things Are, surely there’s some money to be had from this franchise.

Agreed! And like you said, it would have to be a franchise - because I’d have to see"The Celery Stalks at Midnight" and “Howliday Inn” on the big screen as well!

I remember watching the cartoon in school in…maybe 1987? There is a VHS version but it looks to be out of print. You can only get it used.

This would be one of those great kiddie-scary movies. So many kiddie movies these days are like Toy Story, Up, and Monsters, Inc. That wasn’t scary; I had a very disappointed little cousin.

I know this doesn’t fulfill your wish, but there is a play based on the first book. We went to see it at our community theater last year with our five year old and she loved it.

Does this count?

NB not suitable for under 5s (or over 5s, either).

I am thoroughly behind this proposal

I love Bunnicula but I’d be so afraid of them screwing it up. I don’t like what I see of Where the Wild Things Are. Just as long as they don’t make it too cutesy.

Funny, I was just thinking about it today because of some article about vampires being cool. Man, Bunnicula was the original cool vampire! Forget these sparkling fools.
