I want a cat

We had one golden who would play with my son’s pet RAT! Daisy would nose a tennis ball towards the rat, and the rat would climb on top of it so its back feet were on the floor and its front feet and head were over the top of the ball. Daisy would go up to Ralph and VERY GENTLY draw back her flews, turn her head sideways, put her teeth around the exposed parts of the ball, and gently pull it out from under him. Then they would repeat over and over. TOO FUNNY!

Yeah, a golden is a different breed than the OP’s, but wanted to share.

That video gets me in the feels every time.

@StGermain , I had forgotten your horse dying.

I’ve always heard making a big decision after a loss or trauma is unwise.

And, to be sure you’ll have lots of work to do to make a house full of dogs safe for a cat.
If you happen to get a very snippy or fearful cat add about 100% more to your duty.
There’s nothing sadder than a cat who’s afraid all the time. Or one who can’t go where they want.

YMMV. But I’d wait a couple months and see how you feel.
About the time spring babies are being born, you’ll have a better choice and more clarity.
