I want a dog. Not just any dog.

I’ve wanted one for a long time. I was in the Army, living in the barracks, so of course no dog. I now live in an apartment. I haven’t gotten one because I just don’t have a lot of space, or a yard for him. Is there a small, friendly dog that will be OK in an apartment? I don’t want one that will just go bananas and eat everything while I’m at work. Do I need to just wait until I’m finshed with my education and get one after I buy a house?

The size of your apartment is not the issue, the time you have available is.

Please don’t get a dog if you are going to be out of the house all day long, no matter where you live.

I’d write more, but I"m tired.

Just make this decision carefully.

Yeah, that’s another big reason I haven’t gotten one. I’ve been home from the Army for a little more than a year.

I don’t have quality time for a doggie :frowning:

I guess it’s fish again.

You can come here and share my dogs with me…

…and Babe turns that frown upside-down

You can have my moms Helen Keller poodle…she’s deaf and blind, but very quiet, and doesn’t move around much. Or do much of anything for that matter. I tried to convince my parents to let me get a lab puppy on the grounds that the puppy would be a wonderful seeing eye dog for the poodle. They didn’t buy it.
The time you have available should be your main concern. You can always take the dog out for walks/runs, etc, but if you aren’t there to pay attention to it, it could turn into one sad puppy.

I put up a webpage for my dog (well, one of 'em anyway), you can look at his page and pretend he’s your dog for a little while.

Bandit’s page.

He’s a good watchdog and he likes to kill moles. He is an attention whore and will lick you to death if you let him.

I agree about the time thing. But for your future information: My friends were in a similar apartment situation. They did a lot of research, and got a rescued Boston Terrier. Great choice. They take her on lots of walks, and she is so little that she can get a good run right in the apartment.

Then again… another friend of mine travels all the time. She got the most fabulous little miniature poodle. Now, I normally find poodles completely…well, poodly! Bleh. But this dog was just great. Smart, funny, sweet. And good as gold. She had this cool soft pet bag that she carried him in, with mesh sides. She even took him inside a restaurant with us when we went out to lunch, and he barely made a sound. Great, great dog.

Well I just got a dog not to long ago, I live in an apartment, and go to college. Now I know some say that is cruel because college students dont give the dog the attention it needs due to lack of time, but my doggie gets plenty of attention trust me. Anyhow if you are looking for a dog for the apartment try a Jack Russle Terrior. You will never have a dull moment in your life again! They are small and travel size  quite convenient for a typical person who is at school expanding thier mind. They are a hoot let me tell you and very very playful almost like a cat, but if you dont like cats ignore that last comment ;).
