I want to be

… a lumberjack. Leaping from tree to tree as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia. The giant redwood, the larch, the fir, the mighty scots pine. The smell of fresh-cut timber! The crash of mighty trees! With my best girlie by my side, we’d sing … sing … sing.

I want to come down from Yellow mountain riding Wildfire, but still be alive and wearing long underwear and good heavy socks. But yeah, definitely leaving sod busting behind.

I think it would be fun to drive up Grapevine Hill passin’ cars like they were standing still.

At least it would be fun up until they call my Pappy.

I want to be
Where the people are
I want to see
Want to see them dancing

I’ve always suspected this of you, Burpo!

Interesting that this should come up - my wife and I went to see Al Stewart in Exeter, UK last Friday night. He was absolutely amazing. His voice is exactly the same, which is incredible as he is 74.

I want to be like a cat in the dark…and then I want to be the darkness.

Yeah, that’s what everyone says, but it’s more likely to have been Kane babbling incoherently as his brain was dying. That’s why the reporter at the end said maybe the word didn’t mean anything.

After all, Kane didn’t lose Rosebud. It was tossed into the trash fire at his mansion after Kane died.

I want to meet you in the country, in thesummertime in England. I would love to spend a summer in England (down by Avalon), so I can relate.

I wanna be “Becky with the good hair”
She seems to have lots of fun.

I think you’re overthinking it. What Rosebud represented was love. Kane felt his parents hadn’t loved him because they sent him away. So he spent the rest of his life looking for somebody who would love him unconditionally.

This also shows that Charles Foster Kane was not just William Randolph Hearst. Hearst never lacked for maternal love; his mother doted on him and Hearst was fifty-five when she died.

It was Welles who lacked close affection as a child. His parents divorced, his father was an alcoholic, his older brother was institutionalized, and his mother died four days after Orson’s ninth birthday. Welles would end up being sent off to boarding school. And the name of the man who became Welles’ guardian after his father’s death was Bernstein.

Kane was a combination of Hearst’s public life and Welles’ private life.

I want to be that girl in Paris.

Because I can’t not with this setup…
