GM is expressing a desire to sell or phase-out the Saturn division.
I bought a new Saturn L-300 in 2001 that I’ve been pretty pleased with. In a year or two, it will be time to change cars. I have been seriously considering buying a Saturn Aura next year.
Can anyone fill me in on their experience with a new or almost new car brand that has gone away? Someone who bought a 2004 Oldsmobile, for example.
What would you expect for service availability? Parts? And so on and so forth?
GM’s been using a common platform for their cars recently, the Aura is mechanically the same as the new Chevy Malibu, the Ion is a Cobalt with polymer body panels, the Astra is a Opel Astra, if Saturn gets phased out (I can see that happening, as their current lineup is really no different mechanically than Chevy) you could probably get the Astra serviced at a Chevrolet dealership
Me, I’m planning to trade out of the Ion in a few years once affordable diesel passenger cars are available and assuming the economy isn’t in the crapper, I’m not happy with it’s fuel mileage (27 City), even if fuel prices stay low, I’m a stingy bastard and also want to send a metaphorical middle finger to OPEC by driving a biodiesel powered passenger car
