I want to get a buddy for Cooper, someone talk me down

I’ll be Cooper’s buddy…

But seriously, getting a second dog is one of the best things I’ve done on the animal front. Tilly is a fantastic dog - smart, attentive, seeks attention. But she’s energetic, and daily walks still weren’t quite everything she was hoping for. So I decided to get a second dog (my ex-girlfriend had a dog who was around a lot, and Tilly loved playing with him - it was the perfect distraction). So along came Toby. Toby was an ideal companion. He was her equal physically and energetically, and they complimented each very well. And the best part was that I was no longer the most interesting thing in the house. Now, I love playing with my dogs - but they do a HUGE amount of keeping each other entertained. Two dogs is pretty much the same amount of effort as one dog.

Then I got married, and my wife has a dog as well. Three dogs is just as much work as you can imagine, and is too many dogs (for us). We love them, and they all get along, but we probably won’t have 3 dogs in the future. (Not that anything would ever happen to these three, right? They’re going to live forever!)

If we did not have a visitor for Zeus most every day, I would not be able to resist the local pound pictures & stories.

Another “go get her” vote…

Hmm, potential problem here…

I called AWS again, asked again if Ripp had medical issues, the last person said they didn’t think so

Sadly, she does, a thyroid condition and urinary tract issues :frowning:
Also, she sees cats as snacks :frowning: big problem there, as the cats were here first, cat-incompatibility rules her out, sadly

Sorry, Ripp, I had big hopes for you

Any New England Dopers want to adopt her?

I just wasn’t the one who picked him out

/QUOTE]

This I can relate to. I rescued my little guy 18 months ago. Cute dog, well behaved, glad I rescued him, but heart-wise, he’s still someone else’s dog who just happens to live in my house.

It’s important that your next dog gets along with everyone, but turn the whole crowd out and sit with the pooch and let your heart make the decision. If it’s not melting and oozing out of your chest, think twice.

Even though I never chose him, Cooper is MY dog, he’s my buddy, and one of the best dogs we’ve ever had, who knows, if I had gone to the shelter that fateful day, I probably would have made the same decision.

Cooper has definitely chosen me as his favorite! I had to work late last Monday, and apparently Cooper was getting whiny and mopey when I didn’t come home at the normal time, the instant I got home and through the door, he was jumping for joy (literally), that’s how he greets people he loves, by jumping a good 2-3’ in the air with a huge grin on his face

I took him to doggie daycare on Friday this week, and when I picked him up that evening, he was completely worn out, he slept the whole way home, and once home, all he wanted to do was sleep, but sleep next to me, normally he likes the foot of the bed, but that evening, nope, practically on top of me, resting his head against mine, it’s the clingiest he’s ever been

Even today, all he wanted to do was sleep next to me, he slept until 4:00 in the afternoon, and I was asking him if he wanted to go outside numerous times, each time, he’d lift his head slightly, look at me, as if to say “nope, wanna stay here” and go back to sleep

Normally, he’s the one getting ME up and wanting to go outside to play constantly, but today, he would have nothing of it, nope, he wanted to stay attached to me, almost afraid I’d go away or something

He’s my dog, no doubt about it, and that makes me happy, I can only imagine how devastated he was when his previous families abandoned him at the shelter :frowning:

Ripp has finally been adopted

(Not by me, just glad to see her get adopted)

Oh, good. I’m so happy to hear this.

Excellent news.

Help! There’s a mini Austrailan Red Heeler at the local animal shelter - weighs 15lb,so she’d be under the 20lb limit… However she’s expecting, and if I fostered her,I’d wind up with a pack of dogs.

Glad that she was adopted!
For the record, I would not rule out adopting a dog just because the dog has thyroid issues. My former dog became hypothyroid as she became elderly, and it wasn’t really that big of a deal. We just needed to give her a pill every day. It wasn’t very expensive or difficult.

Not dogs. PUPPIES!!!

I am tempted but too far away. :frowning:

MacTech - have you checked out German Shepherd Rescue groups near you? I started looking since I saw this thread. ::whistles innocently::

Yep,and I couldn’t let this one go,cause he’s got the cutest ears and that one has a spot on her nose that looks like a heart and that one is soo glad to see me - - - and so on and so on…
