I want to see a rodeo

Many thanks for jimbuff314, my family went to the Pauls Valley rodeo and enjoyed it immensely.

If you’re unable to match times with any actual rodeos, you can still stop in at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth. Weekends still have bull-riding and sometimes a few other demos. Not the actual thing but it’s still real cowboys and real bulls. That might be enough for the kids (and it’s air conditioned).

Just a backup idea…

If you’re traveling through Arkansas, I’d recommend stopping at Petit Jean Mountain and staying at the lodge there (pic is of dining room). One of the most beautiful spots in the country, and you can take a short hike down to the waterfalls.

How was your trip? Anything in particular you did or didn’t enjoy?

It was AMAZING.

I can’t think of anything I myself didn’t enjoy. There were a few museums that some of my kids were bored by (biggest surprise: the Perot Museum of Science and Nature in Dallas. I loved it, my kids didn’t care for it. I guess it was too much display-reading and not enough hands-on to do stuff). But almost everything was an unqualified hit. We went to:

Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St. Louis, MO
City Museum in St. Louis, MO
Arkansas Alligator Farm and Petting Zoo, Hot Springs, AR
Crater of Diamonds State Park, Murfreesboro, AR (no, we didn’t find any)
Science Museum Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK
Frontier City, Oklahoma City, OK
Museum of Osteology, Oklahoma City, OK (this is one of the ones the kids were a bit bored by)
Myriad Gardens Conservatory, Oklahoma City, OK
Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, Duncan, OK
Heritage Days Rodeo, Pauls Valley, OK
Perot Museum of Science and Nature, Dallas, TX (as per above)
Fort Worth Zoo, Fort Worth, TX
National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and Museum, Fort Worth, TX
Fort Worth Stockyards, Fort Worth, TX
Nolan Ryan Exhibit Hall, Alvin, TX (did this alone with my one kid who’s a mega-baseball fan)
Health Museum, Houston, TX
Space Center Houston, Houston, TX
Royals vs Astros at Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX
Cajun Country Swamp Tour, Breaux Bridge, LA
U. S. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, AL
DeSoto Caverns Family Fun Park, Childersburg, AL
Inside CNN Tour, Atlanta, GA
World of Coca-Cola, Atlanta, GA
Virginia Safari Park, Natural Bridge, VA

A lot of exhausting driving, but a fantastic experience all around, so very well worth it.

I’m impressed!

Wow you guys did a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed it
