Vancouver Firefighters paid a visit to Wreck Beach Wednesday night after reports of an explosion. Turned out to be beach toilets.
Seems they hadn’t been cleaned in a while and the gas build-up, combined with the heat of the day, caused the blast.
Fire crews had to help some people who were on the beach to leave because the main trail was blocked by the mess left from the toilets.
Oh, ick. Blue/brown stuff everywhere…
Is the water around Vancouver actually warm enough for swimming? Seems to me the water up there is pretty cold…orperhaps the beach is just for relaxing!
Anyway, is the summer pretty sunny there? I seem to recall that it rains quite a bit.
Gee, it’s a good thing there wasn’t anyone inside the toilets . . .
Quick! Let’s make up our own urban legends[sup]TM[/sup] before anyone else can.
“So these firefighters find a guy in a SCUBA suit high up in a tree covered with poo…”
Anyone else nervous clicking that link?
You may want to keep that to yourself, Griff.
This reminds me of Virginia Beach off Key Biscayne in Miami. The beach is downstream from the sewage treatment plant, but of course only treated water is allowed out from the plant, except…, everytime there’s a big storm. Imagine that, storms in tropical Miami.
It seems the Sewwy-juice has been all cleaned up, so it’s safe for me to head to the beach today and tomorrow. And yes, I will be nude, as many others will be. I also plan to buy a beer or 5 from a naked chick.
As for the water temp-- Wreck actually has the warmest water in the lower mainland, because the flats are shallow. At really low tide you can get an extra 500 meters of beachfront. And we’re just coming off a week of temps in the high 20s and nothing but sunshine. (That’s celsius for you americans…) Summer usually starts later here (mid-July) and goes to the beginning of October, so this is a nice bonus.
