I’ve voted in elections where the margin of victory was literally a handful of votes. It fucking MATTERS.

Besides voting, consider “get[ting] off the internet,” in the immortal words of Kathleen Hanna, and doing something physical and real-world social. Go to a protest with a homemade sign, go to a meeting (the Indivisible movement has some good resources for finding one), or just talk some politics with people who seem like they know what they’re talking about, even if you disagree on some stuff.
It’s psychologically helpful. I sense a lot of negative baggage in your aura, IdleThoughts - maybe some of these steps will make you feel better. (And you don’t have to wait for the next election!)

What Trudeau said was Canada is really nice to refugees. In fact, Canada did not increase its planned refugee intake by a single person as a result of Trump’s executive order.
Read that link carefully. Nowhere does Trudeau suggest he’s planning any change in Canada’s plans. That’s because he wasn’t. Much easier to talk a good game.

Ok maybe nobody is ever indoctrinated and some groups simply have preferences to carry around symbols, stand up to worship them on cue and recite inane pledges. They also have preferences to celebrate murder when undertaken by carriers of the favored symbols, and strong hatred of innocent people who wave other symbols.
Some other groups that have been described as indoctrinated just had a strong preference for Chairman Mao perhaps.
