I washer my iPhone!

Put it in the oven set for 100 F.

I’ve washed and dried many a circuit board.

This made me giggle.

Do you have a secretary? If so, this is the ideal situation to mutter, “Hold all my calls”.

I really really really don’t think this is a good idea. Leaving electronics exposed to that sort of heat isn’t as bad as it could get, but is not a good idea. Rice. Go for rice.

Rice?

It’s not suprising that a circuit board may survive this temperature for a short time, but there is almost zero chance that a liquid crystal display would. I don’t know what liquid crystals are being used in the display, but I would be very suprised if the liquid crystal did not go through a phase change before reaching 100˚C. Depending on the type of display, this could permanently disorder the alignemnt.

ETA: Oh I see you said ˚F. Nevertheless, LC displays are quite sensitive. I wouldn’t do it.

At the hardware store you can buy this desiccant material, I forget what it’s called but maybe Drie-Rite, it looks like blue aquarium gravel. Put the phone in a sealed jar with the desiccant and keep changing it out as it turns from blue to pink (which means it is hydrated, and might happen every day or so while there is significant moisture). When you notice the desiccant stop changing all the way to pink, the container is as dry as it is going to get. Note that the desiccant can be reused by heating in the oven, it will turn blue again as the water is driven off.

Actually if you have a large enough ratio of desiccant to phone, you might not need to change it out at all. I am not in the habit of baptizing electronics so I don’t know for certain.

I knew that, eventually, someone was going to do that.
You could have picked a better time than right after lunch, though.

And then you get slapped with a sexual harassment lawsuit because, since you were muttering, she mis-heard what you said.

Chuckle.
Men chuckle.
Women giggle.

$69 for a one year extension of the warranty. Doesn’t cover laundering the thing.

Kim Komando recommends the rice treatment.

Do not cook the rice first!

Do not cook the rice after, either, I’d say. At least not to eat.

I took it apart, dried it out, cleaned it with alchohol, tried resetting then restoring it. I let it lay on my dashboard all day. I blew it out with canned air.
Nada! It would do wierd stuff, but no more iPhone.
Shit. 400 bucks for a new one, which works fine.
Thanks for all the help,
mangeorge
BTW; seen the new iPhone update? Apple is sucky, imo.

Sounds like it’s too late to try my salad spinner idea. I’m sure that would have worked much better than the microwave or toaster.

Dang, Patty, I wish I’d thought of that.
