I wasn't asking for medical advice, Czarcasm

You should stop that, I’ve heard tell it can make you go blind.

:smack:
Crap! I gave out medical advice!

Thanks for the tip! Does it matter what brand of bleach?

Why, licesol, of course.

No, responsibility.

Yes.

So, isn’t it the responsibilty of this message board to make sure that they do not allow a member to indiscriminately diseminate erroneous information if they are aware that he/she is doing so?

Disclaimer: I have no dog in this fight, having not read the original thread. I am just responding to the information in THIS thread. Also, I probably spelled oodles of words wrong in that statement. My apologies. I won’t lie…I’m too tired to look the words up. Commence the ridicule.

No, it is not. It is the responsibility of each individual not to do stupid things-like take medical advise from strangers in an anonymous online forum.

Well, I don’t agree. If the powers that be know that someone is consistently presenting erroneous information that might cause harm to another person if that information is taken as fact then I think that it is their responsibility to prevent that person from continuing to do so. If the poster in question continues to do this in violation of the warning given to them, they deserve whatever action is taken. In the case of handy, banning.

We all share information here about the things we experience, and what we believe to be true. If it is presented as something we experienced? Something we believe? Even if it is “out there in the ozone”…it should be fine so long as it is presented in that way. If it is presented as fact, however, it had best BE fact. Supported by facts. It should not be presented as fact if it is not, in truth, supported by facts.

This really has nothing to do with people being stupid enough to take internet message board advice about medical matters. It has to do with the message board itself taking responsibility for what is posted here…and I do not think that it is to the detriment of the SDMB staff that they choose NOT to allow erroneous information that might be harmful if taken seriously to be posted here.

Just to be clear…I agree with you, Dave. It would be stupid to take medical advice from an internet message board.

Yeah, about that…

Given that I do occasionally make trips back to visit Qadgop and the rest of the family, (flying out for one in the morning, actually) do you think it would be possible to give me some warning beforehand if he’s ever going to end up on the SDSAB?

glares suspiciously at Qadgop

:dubious:

Not to fear, hon. I’m nearly a year late in a promised report for Dex. I’d be lucky to ever achieve “guest commentator” status after that!

See ya tonight!

All the immediate family are warned beforehand. We learned early on about the ill effects of furious masturbation on the family of SDSAB members. Of course, it’s not all bad. Some of us consider it a perk.

Come again?

I have got to stop reading this thread. But I can’t! It’s like some horrible addiction.

Say, any of you guys have any advice …

I dunno. Personally, all the groupies I’ve had flocking around ever since I was elevated to SDSAB make it unneccesary.

I voted for a rigorously defined and applied anarchy, with a system of checks and balances to ensure the most effective use of resources. A system which would include regular periods of well planned spontenaity and multiple redundancies of similar restrictions and prohibitions.

And mandantory nudity at ice skating rinks.

But, that has little to do with what was being discussed. What has happened to this board is that the Don’t Be A Jerk Rule has been de-vague-arised over the years and thru responses to various incidents to the point that some rather restrictive… er… restrictions on the conduct and posts of members have become somewhat of an annoyance to some of the paying customers, I mean members, of the Dope.

Remember when we used to have discussions on all sorts of contraversial topics? Nah, I don’t either. But now, the discussions are so moderated that we are mostly left with two extremes: Fluffy McFeelGood threads and flameout meltdown trainwrecks. Why? Because too many things are being moderated. “You can’t use that word, that smily is forbidden, you (member 35497) can only post on these approved topics…” Really, looked at as the whole big picture, it’s a bit of a drag.

Yeah, I imagine some will disagree with me here. You know what? I don’t care. I have my opinion, you have yours. Neither of us is wrong for holding one over the other.

Yes.

Holy crap, I just realized that a question I posed about effexor withdrawal became a locked thread.

I’m embarassed. Let this be a lesson to me to pay attention to the rules. (Not saying that the OP didn’t pay attention to the rules, just reminding my stupid self.)

Chagrined,
ZJ
