I watched Blade Runner today (spoilers in this topic)

I don’t get what Harrison Ford was doing when he examined the photograph a lot and was zooming in and looking at it and enhancing it and all that stuff. Was it Zhora in the picture? Why would she be in the picture?

Was the movie ruined for me by watching it on the laserdisc version with Harrison Ford’s voice-over narration and the happy ending in the green pastures? Wikipedia says some other versions don’t have this stuff.
overall: good movie, would watch again.

Yes, I believe it was Zora. It showed that she was with them recently in that room.

No, the movie isn’t ‘ruined’ by watching the original theatrical version. Ford’s narration is unnecessary but if it didn’t bother you then, well, it didn’t bother you! The movie is so good that it would take a lot more that an out of place, Philip Marlowe-esque narration to ruin it (contrary to what some say Harrison Ford did not deliberately do a shitty voice over). Same goes for the ‘happy’ ending.

That being said, the director’s cut is superior and should definitely be watched!

I think I can answer my own question with another question.

So is that a real picture of Leon’s, then? I guess that would explain why Zhora was in it.

For I had thought that it was another fake photo, like Rachael’s (as Deckard suggests in the voiceover, but I guess he is wrong).

They didn’t do a good job of showing that that particular photo was different from the others (In that it was a pic taken by Leon rather than one of his “pretend” photos).

One thing I liked about that scene was how it showed just how annoying voice control is. Ridley didn’t get that detail right. All of Deckards commands could have been done more quickly with a mouse. If they’d only known of it at that time.

If you’ve ever played the Blade Runner PC game, you do, in fact, enhance sections of a photo by clicking and dragging a box around them with a mouse. But since it has to remain true to the movie, it still has to go “beep beep beep beep click click click click” before it enhances.
