I watched Treasure Island today (spoilers ahoy)

The 1972 version with Orson Welles. I didn’t like it as much as other versions I’ve seen (the only one I can think of is the 1950 Disney version, which I liked more).

In every version I’ve seen, Jim Hawkins is younger than I think he should be. I guess he is supposed to be young, so maybe that is just my own problem.

In this version, I don’t think they did a good job of making Long John Silver likable at the beginning. He is supposed to friendly and not suspected at the beginning. But here it seems everyone, even Captain Smollet who is supposed to trust him, is suspicious of him from the beginning. And they don’t really do a good job of showing Silver and Jim becoming friends.

Also at the end Dr. Livesy promise Silver that he will not be prosecuted. This isn’t supposed to happen; he should promise him to take him back and try to defend him at a fair trial. Why does Silver even escape at the end, if he has been given freedom from prosecution?

In this movie the gunfire does not sound like other movies when I’ve seen musket fire. It sounds louder and more like modern gunfire (as far as I know from movie standards).

So I could nitpick about every detail that is different from the book but I guess movies can never be exactly accurate. But I did notice that a lot of lines of dialog came straight from the book, and I liked that.
