I weep for Plastic Man

Or rather, for the lack of him.

The Kyle Baker series was one of the most entertaining comics series I have ever read. Plaz is off the wall, Woozie earns his keep as a sidekick, and Morgan & Edwina as Plaz’s family are far more entertaining than the boring Luke & whatshername from JLA.

Plastic Man, as a comic, was FUN! Why the hell have we forsaken fun for shoddy drama in our comics? :frowning:

Any word on Plaz’s future, pending this new Crisis?

You have to realize it didn’t sell at all, and DC isn’t running a charity. They’ll cut certain creators more slack than others for low-selling books (such as most of Alan Moore’s America’s Best Comics line, and almost everything Howard Chaykin has done in the last few years), but I think they were extremely generous giving Plastic Man as long a run as they did.

I loved this series, and I haven’t bought superhero comics since I was a young’un. (Okay, I came to it as much for Kyle Baker as for Plas.)

I just read issue 20 – the last in the series – last night. It reminded me of the old Prisoner teevee series…brilliant episode after brilliant episode, and then a final chapter that left me scratching my head and wondering what the hell was going on.

Did any of you guys think #20 made a proper resolution?

Incidentally, have you checked out the little animation here?

(Click on the “exclusive animation” button on the left. Turn down the sound if you’re in a work cubicle.)

I can’t download stuff from work, so no Quicktime. :frowning:

Plas has gotten canceled many a time over the years. I think his only long run was his initial one, in the 40s and early 50s. My guess is he’s too wacky for one segment of the comic book crowd, and too adult for another.

Slothrop, the hero of Gravity’s Rainbow, is obsessed with Plastic Man.

If there’s not going to be any Richie Hawtin here, I’ll be moving along.
