I went urban exploring

The other night I was bored and thought I might do a little bit of urban exploring. I drove downtown and parked in a parking garage that sits close to the building I was targeting that night. There were a bunch of bums around and a cop driving around the block every few minutes so I had to be careful. I wasn’t sure at the time what the building was ( a department store) but I could tell it was completely abandoned. There is a fire escape on the side of the building that I got to by climbing some grooves in the wall. I went up to the third floor where I knew there was an already open window from scouting the area before. I slipped through the window and into what used to be an old bathroom.

I opened the door to the bathroom and there was the main room which really had nothing in it except for some old machinery or ventilation unit or something. I shined the flashlight through my shirt so nobody would be able to see the light from outside. I found a staircase and walked slowly down the stairs just in case they were rotted through or something but they seemed very sturdy. The second floor was absolutely filled to the brim with empty wooden racks. I wanted to look around more but I was so paranoid about someone seeing the light and calling the cops. I saw a fuse box on the stairs and thought it would have been pretty funny to see if the power still worked but I doubt it would have. There was also a frame on the stairwell that had a listing of what products were on which floors, which were mostly women’s fashions and such. In the middle of the second floor I saw an escalator which was covered by some large carpet or something. It was pretty creepy to walk down because the covering made it feel like entering a cave. Then I was at the bottom floor and walked around a little while but there really wasn’t all that much to see. It was really hot in the building so I decided it was time to leave.

After climbing back out the window and walking down the steps a little I noticed a door on the second floor and tried it and of course it was unlocked so I had wasted my time going through the damn window. I climbed back down the fire escaped and jumped down seemingly unnoticed and made my way to a retaurant to meet my friend. All in all it was a pretty fun experience, though I do know it was most likely illegal and could have been very dangerous.

Awesome. I once did an abandoned hotel in Venezuela. Dangerous, stupid, illegal and really fun and exciting.

You’re all mad, i say. Mad, mad, MAD!!! Pool, i’m guessing because of the poor light you didn’t notice the homeless junkies in there, ready to slit your throat as soon as they came to?

That my friend is why I keep my trusty hobo hammer at my side at all times.

You know, that sets quite an urban picture…
