I wish I was 2 years old today.

The littlest QS has turned 2 today. After waking up in the morning he was treated to a rousing chorus of the Happy Birthday song by me, Mrs.QS, and big sister QS. Followed by about a dozen encores. Followed by a hardy round of tickeles which left him breathless from giggling, tosses and flips on our big bed, pillow fights and airplane rides.

A favourite breakfast of waffles, blueberries, bananas and maple syrup followed shortly there after.

Later this morning a few of his friends from a weekly play group are coming over to help disassemble his room and empty the toy chest on the floor. When I left this morning, Mrs.QS was already busy in the kitchen baking his favourite chocolate chip cookies. Then hot dogs for lunch. Then nap. Then a trip outside to ride his bike and wait for me to come home from work.

For dinner it’s off to the Rainforest Cafe to be frightened and thrilled by the animatronic gorillas, elephants and the fearsom alligator.

Then back home for a great big ice cream cake waiting for him in the freezer. And of course endless phone calls from Canada by adoring grandparents and uncles and aunts.

Birthdays never seem quite as much fun when you are no longer a little kid.

2nd birthdays are always better than first ones. Your child is old enough to recognize the special treatment, and so new to the world that everything is still exciting fun. It’s nice being two. Potty training and homework are still years away, totally over the horizon, everyone still makes a fuss over you, and life is full of adventures.

Third birthdays, now, just rock! By the third birthday, they know it’s coming, and are primed and ready, yet are still easy to surprise. It’s sooo fun! You’ve got a treat coming in a year… [sub]Oh, wait. You already know this…[/sub]

In the meantime, enjoy being two through little QS’ eyes!

Congratulations to you and your child! And you’re right about birthdays being more fun when you’re a child. But then, you can probably have more fun on their birthdays than your own.

[sub]I wish I had a child…preferably a daughter[/sub]

Congrats! My younger son just had his second birthday a couple of weeks ago as well. It was very cool, but frankly I think three is really where the birthdays start. Two is really still an adults party. (Of course, syncing with Cinco De Mayo didn’t hurt things). My older son turns 4 next week, which’ll be a real party.
