I won the traveling trophy. Whoo hoo!

I’m a member of my company’s Toastmasters International club and I just gave my first speech. At the end of our meeting everyone votes for the person they think did the best job/had the best speech and that person wins the traveling trophy. And they picked me! Yipee! Granted, it’s just a small trophy and I only get to keep it for two weeks until our next meeting but still… they picked me! My speech evaluator said that I did an excellent job. She said I didn’t appear to be nervous, I didn’t use the note cards I had prepared, and I had excellent hand gestures.

One of my biggest fears is public speaking and I joined this club to try to overcome that fear and I think I’m on my way. I’m just so damn proud of myself right now and I had to share it with someone!

Congratchylations!

A toast to you!

Good job!

Lots of people fear public speaking more than death! At least, that’s the anecdote I’ve heard. (and wasn’t it Seinfeld who picked up on it and said that means that if you’re at a funeral, you’d rather be in the casket than delivering the eulogy?)

I was going to join Toastmasters at one point for the very same reason. As it turned out my stint as a Weight Watcher leader has pretty much cured me instead.

So here’s to you, and here’s to speaking in front of a group!
