"I won't leave Aruba without her"

Children should have gotten their own category. Pardon my cynicism, but every time a child goes missing for an hour, the kid becomes the lead story on CNN.com, with photo.

Till’s murder and open-casket funeral were touchstones of the civil rights movement. You’re right but I don’t think it’s a good comparison. That’s of interest today because of its historical significance. Now, if that murder happened today it would still get media coverage because of its brutality - but I think the murder would get more attention than the disappearance.

The amount of attention a case gets is, in part, determined by how SHOCKING AND TRAGIC! it is. I think the abduction and murder of a pretty, innocent, young suburban white girl seems more shocking to a lot of people. I’m chalking it up to gender and racial reasons. So it’s not a case of people being chosen for media attention because they’re attractive, but it amounts to something similar.

These things do not take place on such a conscious level.

Yeah, thats it. Shes gone, lady.

Of course I didn’t really think of the “retire to the beachs of Aruba” angle. She made a promise to invest in property behind.

What a shit story. To depressing to think about.

Depressing indeed. Seems like the island is too small to lose someone.

point of order, Nat is now believed to be dead.

I can imagine not wanting to leave, and I don’t envy her thought processes of leaving versus staying.

Boy it’s a small world. Some of us heard this via email from her uncle, rather than on the national news. How many degrees of separation is that, … people*?

*right, this isn’t the pit.

Wish someone woulda took me up on this. I could buy lunch then.
