I Wore A "Beat Bush" Button To The Casino: Surprising Reactions

I have seen a button that says “Lick Bush in 2004”. I laughed.

Laura Bush was in Vegas yesterday. I wonder if she was met with a similar reaction.

I wore a “The Pit Boss is a Jerk” button to the casino.

Woke up in the hospital.

Just wanted to say, it feels good to see I’m not the only one, and I hope there are enough of us to turn the tide.

I registered to vote when it was still Dean in the running, but I’m an Anyone But Bush supporter. And I’ve shirked my civic duty long enough.

Saw a bumper sticker in the background on some news bit:

“Let’s Not Elect Him In '04 Either”

I’m not an expert in public opinion, but I do sense that things are turning against Bush, if not for Kerry. Where I live is a part of Texas that is still heavily Democrat (and mostly Hispanic), but Bush got about half the vote in 1998 running for governor and just barely lost this area to Gore in 2000 - something no Republican has managed in a while. People who didn’t vote for him here generally still found him likeable, and quite a few Democrats of the more moderate to conservative stripe here were happy to have a president that seemed more familiar with our border issues, such as trade, bilingual education, and immigration, than either Clinton or Gore did.
But lately it is getting harder to find someone with a kind word about President Bush. And there are many active and retired military people in this area as well. They aren’t exactly thrilled about John Kerry, but if their attitudes are any indication, I think a lot of people that were for Bush in 2000 will stay home in 2004.
Texas is safe for Bush of course, but I think he may be losing New Mexico (which he also barely lost in 2000) and might lose Arizona - something that was unthinkable a month or two ago.

But I still think Kerry needs to mount a more effective campaign, as Nader might do very well among people who are upset with Bush - but aren’t eager to vote for a Democrat - which describes quite a few people in the West.

That’s true. 8 times out of 10 a strange person who is going to randomly make an issue of your politics is going to be a liberal who can’t resist the urge to tell you how wrong and foolish you are, while not seeing the irony that bothering a complete stranger isn’t seen as very wise or polite… Or maybe I’m just jaded by all the bad first impressions the Loud Liberals (as opposed to the sane ones, there really are two kinds) at my work place made just about immediately after meeting them…but I keep meeting this type of person! It does little to help convince me that liberals, Loud ones in particular, as even half as bright as they’d like to believe.

Then wear a “Beat Kerry” button one day, and a “Jesus Sucks” button the next. See what different reactions you get.

“Jesus Sucks” is hardly a partisan political statement.

Then when people bitch about it, ask them who they intend to vote for, and repopulate your reporting sample.
