You’re just itching to get me in trouble with my wife, aren’tcha?
I tried this yesterday, it was good but like SolGrundy I fely a little off after drinking it. (I was also on a sugar buzz like you wouldn’t believe)
Actually it tasted almost exactly like my Mom’s hot chocolate only thicker and a little less sweeter. But somehow I think my mom’s hot chocolate is still better for me than this thing.
8.5, actually (if you figure it by the formula instead of the slidy-thing).
It’s really yummy–I split one with the spouse the other day and half of one was quite enough because it’s so rich (though I’ll admit I did have one all to myself last night). This was after figuring out the points for my favorite (small-size) Cold Stone Creamery sundae (chocolate ice cream, graham crackers, cookie dough, chocolate syrup) and discovering that it’s a whopping 18.5 points!
Chantico seems positively tame by comparison.
I have seen the light!
And it was good, OH, was it good!@@
Wow. I’m so enjoying this thread. I didn’t hold out a lot of hope for it when it first came in because I, too, thought it was too rich. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though. It does fit the American palate.
I’d be interested in hearing a comparison by anyone who’s actually had the drink in Europe. I would expect that Chantico will be considered much sweeter and milkier (as I’ve been told by a district manager).
As I mentioned in the other Starbucks thread, try it with a little cinnamon sprinkled on top and don’t forget the Chantico dipping cookie.
As a current Starbucks barista (working on a promotion to management) I’d be happy to answer any other questions about it if anyone has any.
Enjoy!
My cousin works for Starbucks and they were experimenting with variations last week. So far, her favorite is 4 oz of Chantico with 2 shots of espresso.
I tried it (the regular way)…it took me an hour to drink but oh. my. gosh. was it good.
Hey, I saw Jaques Torres’ Hot Chocolate on the food network today and it reminded me of this thread. It looks like it could give this Chantico elixir a run for its money, and might even be better. I saw the stuff and the “powder” is real chocolate and looks like a cup of melted chocolate when you add the hot milk. It looked reallly goood! Plus there is a chile (spiced) version that also looks good if you’re feeling adventurous. At $16 for 18oz. it still seems a bit pricey but probably a lot cheaper than buying Chanticos at Starbucks retail.
Let me know if you try it.
