IANAD, but I know some of you are

I’m not looking for anybody to attempt online diagnosis here. I know better than that. But I want to throw this out and see if anybody has any ideas.

We have a grandson who is about four months old. He’s had his share of problems since his birth, including some sleep apnea, which seems to have resolved itself, and failure to thrive, which resulted in bottle instead of breastfeeding. At this point he’s growing and gaining weight and seems to be a happy, good-natured baby. One problem remains, though, which is that sometimes for no apparent reason he spits up blood. He’s had a scope to check his stomach for trouble - turned up nothing. He’s had a CT scan, I think to check his lungs, again nothing. The latest thing was a scope to check for bleeding from his larynx. Nothing there, either. I can’t help but think there’s something that’s just not being thought of. I suggested to his mother that she keep a journal of the incidents, to see if there’s a subtle pattern that’s been overlooked. But nobody seems to know what’s going on.

So I’m asking here. Anybody have any ideas that she can ask her doctor(s) about? I’m not trying to second-guess the experts, but sometimes another pair of eyes, or another thought process can be helpful. They’ll be taking a second look at his CT scan this week, I think, just to see if they missed anything.

I appreciate anything that might help.

Oh, that poor lil’ angel. That would scare me to death. I’d say the blood might be from his mother’s sore nipple but you mentioned he is bottle-feeding so that rules my theory out. I hope they discover the reason for it soon and that it’s not anything serious. Poor lil’ guy.
