Being stuck out on the boat while my boyfriend is with his parents, my sister who lives with me in Houston flew back to Oregon to spend christmas with my mom and dad, and all my friends are updating their facebook statuses with Christmas stuff does make me feel a little sad.
But I’ve taken up watching a show and reading a book, and chatting with you all, so it’s not all bad! I can’t wait to go home and see my boy though, and I’m ESPECIALLY looking forward to my first new year’s kiss! Because of various circumstances, I’ve never gotten to have one, either cuz I was single and didn’t have a date for the night, or because I was in a relationship and had to be away with my own family! So… I am really looking forward to that!
I’ve been a long time fan of the Straight Dope columns since I first read about the Jesus H Christ article back in college. Only joined and started reading the message boards since the middle of summer, but it’s been a lot of fun. It’s by far the best message board I’ve ever seen!

lol Quasi…I am in my late 40’s (48 on Wednesday) and have long since gotten over the combined gifts, and pretty well insist on no gifts at all, much less one for each occasion.
However, as a kid, it irked me. One of those things.
Wandering over from the other thread I wish to applaud this kind idea. My business is the news business; I have one good friend who just had heart surgery, another is battling cancer.
I know what real problems look like. I don’t have any. Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays all!
On the other hand I too am ready to take on anyone who wants a kind ear. I will be around all day tomorrow and will keep an eye on the Dope. I will be cooking a turkey, stuffing, mashed taters, kale, stewed tomatoes & mixed veggies for myself, Sophie, Lucky, Clover & Finney the dogs, and Egypt the cat.
The chickens & geese will get double corn feed spread around the yard. It will amuse them greatly.
Anyway, I’m here too if anyone needs it. PM is good too. I’m going to go to sleep soon, but will likely be up around 8am Eastern.

Okey Doke. I got a roaring blaze in the fireplace, my shotguns loaded, and I didn’t feed Blackjack all day, so he has a lean and hungry look. That fat old man better not try to break into my place tonight!
So while I wait wearily for this deadly night to pass, I’m going to drink vodka to stay alert, and warily watching, but still willing, to swap tales of horror from Christmas past and Christmas future.
Who else stays the vigil on this night and toasts the darkness?
