Ice cream floats

I like a classic root beer float, but I also like to mix things up sometimes. Birch beer and mint chocolate chip ice cream is one of my favorites. What are your favorite ice cream floats?

Root Beer for me. Vanilla ice cream.

I’m pretty boring.

This is The One True Float.

Though I will admit to using French vanilla when I feel like going crazy…

Vanilla ice cream and black cherry soda!!! Pardon my drool…

Can’t go wrong with root beer and vanilla ice cream. Mountain Dew is good too.

Root beer (or birch beer) and butter brickle ice cream. French vanilla will do in a pinch.

If I venture away from root beer, this is the way to go. This, or Coke with cherry or cherry-vanilla ice cream. There’s something about cherrry.

Ice cream floats, but you have to drive 'em real fast along the parade route, or they’re just a big, sticky mess. :stuck_out_tongue:

Root beer or Coca-Cola (not Pepsi) and regular vanilla. NOT soft-serve ice cream.

I’ve tried other combos, but they aren’t good enough to compete with the original. I am eager to try one I heard suggested somewhere: Guinness and coffee ice cream.

It’s root beer and chocolate. Vanilla is OK but chocolate is better.

I grew up on coke and vanilla ice cream. As an adult, I came to appreciate root beer floats.

I had an uncle whose favorite combo was vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and carbonated water.

Fruit sherbet and either sprite or ginger ale is also pretty good.

This is what I came to say. Cherry sherbet with lemon-lime soda or orange sherbet with ginger ale are very good.

It does in my experience.

Floats are disgusting. Just give me the ice cream, thank you.

Orange juice and Rocky Road.

Ha, just kidding.

That would be a chocolate ice cream soda. Nothing to do with floats.

Spicy ginger ale like Blenheim’s or Vernor’s – not the dry pale booze mixers like Canada Dry or Schweppes – with vanilla ice cream is called a Boston Cooler, even though Vernor’s comes from Detroit and Blenheim’s from South Carolina.

Now try that with Amaretto ice cream! Oooh, yumm!

A surprisingly good combination I discovered via a scarcity of ingredients: Mountain Dew and orange sherbet.

That’s basically an egg cream.

Vanilla ice cream and draft A&W root beer.
