American. I use ice in soft drinks and in alcoholic drinks (not beer or wine, but in mixed drinks or whiskey on the rocks). I was overjoyed when our new apartment came with a brand-new super-duper refrigerator with an ice-maker built in.
It’s not one of those through-the-door icemakers, though. It’s inside the freezer drawer, so you have to open the drawer to get ice. And it takes up a fair amount of space, since it must have an ice tray in which to deposit the ice it makes.
My (non-American) wife saw this as a waste of valuable freezer space and removed the unit.
We’re still married, so I guess I’ve forgiven her, but I do miss my ice.
