This is America now (posted on Reddit):
Anti-ICE posts have now taken over the subreddit for (checks notes) sharing pictures of big dicks.
R/nursing is planning a nationwide strike.
And a new poll shows that a plurality of Americans now support abolishing ICE.
We may be reaching a tipping point here.
Heads up - the story about Reddit that you posted is from six years ago.
Thanks, I removed it. I didn’t catch the date. I just happened to run across it when I was looking for the r/catbongos post.
Is he sure it wasn’t taken off by a paper clip? I hear those things can take your finger right off.
According to folks on Bluesky monitoring such things, the remaining denizens of the Muskian hellsite are 1) mad (as in angry) and 2) mad (as in batshit crazy). They are calling for Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act to put down these “terrorist riots”. Presumably we will be hearing shortly about Minneapolis burning down
They also are firmly wedded to the idea that all the protesters are really, truly paid agitators being bussed in from outside, leading to this gem:
The idea that the protestors are genuinely pissed locals whose “supply lines” involve a 10-minute drive to CostCo doesn’t seem to have occurred to them.
Not just that, but to the extent that Antifa is a real entity, I don’t think it’s ever been organized enough to ‘deploy extended supply lines’.
I know they’ve been getting told for a decade now that Antifa is some well organized group, but using a phrase like that makes me think they believe they’re not just organized but militarized.
Also, regarding this:
For as much as the right may be liking all of this, I’d think most of them (maybe the politicians more than the random people on the street) would want this to end sooner rather than later. I have to imagine the angrier the left gets, the more turnout they’ll have for the midterms. If I was a republican/MAGA politician and I was up for reelection, I’d want my constituents to be annoyed by Trump’s latest incoherent ramblings, not getting hospital bills from when they were tear gassed a few weeks earlier.
That’s one of the very few silver linings I’ve been able to come up with. The shittier they treat people living in the US, the angrier people will be and the more they’ll show up.
The people making those arguments are the bubble-fed cannon fodder and those intentionally feeding the bubble so they get more cannon fodder. The idea is that “finally, at last” we are having the righteous confrontation with “Them”, out of which of course “We” will prevail because we’re tougher, braver, godlier, manlier, more willing to endure pain, better armed.
Antifa, almost, by definition is disorganized. They don’t believe the same things, but Antifa is similar to anarchists.
I consider myself a pacifist anarchist so I don’t go out fighting *. Antifa supports views similar to many of my own, but I can’t support violence on their part. They are idiots doing stupid things which are detrimental to their cause.
(*at least in the branches/schism I like)
Well, Antifa is disorganized now. Back in the 50s that Republicans seem so nostalgic for, we had a violent antifa leader in the White House. It was very organized then.
And given how exactly backwards that quote was, I have to wonder if it was maybe made by a very clever Antifa, as both misdirection to ICE, and as genuine advice to the local protestors on how to handle the overextended fascists.
Poe’s Law is a harsh mistress.
Where are you guys getting the notion that antifa is organized in the least. It’s like saying the love of chocolate ice cream is organized. It’s not an organization. It’s an attitude. Anti-Fascist. End of definition.
Agreed…but I did enjoy Chronos’ allusion to General Eisenhower.
It amazes me how much mileage conservatives get out of the Antifa boogeyman. A thing that does not exist yet they scare so many with it.
Yeah, about the last thing you’d want from the right’s perspective is a long continuation of the current status quo of confrontation. This is exactly at the level at which people will be outraged but not suppressed. Obviously, ideally, we would have the same level of outrage with no one getting killed by the right, but sometimes the ideal is not possible.
Excelent way to put it. I like chocolate ice cream. I also have a taste for decency.
If every aspect of my life were different, I’d make – and offer for sale – “We’re All Cricket Now” T-shirts.
Life is weird. We had a dog named Cricket. And in the house we just bought, the previous owner had a tee-shirt printing shop in one of the garages. All of the machinery is gone, or I would do it.
If the MAGA Minnesota logistics and planning are the same high standard as they displayed when deploying the NG to LA, I don’t think the it’s the locals that are in for a shit time.
Also, “small state”? WTF?
