Icelandic

Anyone hear speak Icelandic?

I haven’t seen Björn around for a while. Of course, while he spoke Icelandic, I’m not sure he understood it.

ssskuggiii is part islandic isnt she? you might wanna ask her

I’m half Icelandic. I can probably do a rough translation, but I speak little Icelandic. I understand a great bit. What do you want to know? I might be able to answer it or ask my mother about it.

Where is bj0rn?? I miss the incomprehensible little bugger.

My students were taking their final exam when I read this. I’m sitting in the front of the room, and I go “Ha!” rather loudly. They looked at me funny, then went back to their tests.

So, I’m a weird instructor. Get over it.

:::still chuckling:::

Please pronounce and define: ssskuggiii

When I try it, it sounds like a snake with a burp caught in it’s throat.

well, a definition?: skuggi means shadow.
pronunciation: sk-oog-ee [oo like in good]

When I was at the Roskilde Festival this year (I survived) I met some people from Iceland. When they heard I was from Sweden they said

  • Astrid Lindgren sover aldrig! (Astrid Lindgren never sleeps)

Is this something national you learn in school ssskuggiii?

spotted pit in the bj0rn just was.

I studied it for a little bit, but only met two native Icelanders to speak it with. Years ago.

I’m trying to learn it now. I was supposed to move to Iceland and study at the university for three years, but I ran out of money. :frowning:

MR

I’m looking for the correct pronunciation of the word “Islendingur”, which is being mangled 19 different ways to Wednesday in this country.

I speak Norwegian. When I look at Icelandic, I can get a pretty good idea of what Norwegian was like a thousand years ago.

Then I get down on my knees and start thanking random deities that I didn’t live a thousand years ago.
