Schindler’s List.
My parents are concentration camp survivors and I can’t watch those kinds of movies. It’s just to personal.
Schindler’s List.
My parents are concentration camp survivors and I can’t watch those kinds of movies. It’s just to personal.
I’ve seen everything on that list except for Pulp Fiction and The Godfather. I have seen enough clips from both so that I feel like I’ve seen most of the movies. I saw Silence of the Lambs on television so I feel it was probably less … intense, but I have no desire to watch it again.
Of the rest I have probably watched some of those more than once, if they come on TV I will find myself watching them again. The only ones I would not bother to watch again are;
Titanic
Braveheart (I blame Mel for my feelings on this, maybe I’d just watch Angus MacFadyen’s parts?)
Schindler’s List
The Graduate
I have seen both Gone with the Wind & the Sound of Music, but neither straight thru.
Couldnt watch all of The Silence of the Lambs the stupid was too much for me.
I should and want to watch- Schindler’s List- just havent yet. Dunno why.
You should read Thomas Lawrence’s The Seven Pillars of Wisdom before seeing the movie; you’ll better understand what you’re seeing. The book has some great survival stories with insight into middle eastern thought.
In early 20th century Arabia, really basic survival and loyalty are everything. First your family, then your clan, then your tribe, then maybe they’ll think about forming a country “…if it pleases Auda”. Check it out.
From the OP’s linked list:
Schindler’s List
Any of the Harry Potter movies except the first one (I haven’t read the books either)
The Graduate
The Shawshank Redemption
The Silence of the Lambs
Other movies people have mentioned that I haven’t seen:
Singin’ in the Rain
The Lost Weekend
Modern Times
City Lights
The English Patient
Dances With Wolves
Other famous movies I haven’t seen:
All About Eve
Any of the American Pie movies
American Sniper
Anatomy of a Murder
Any of the Batman movies
Birdman
Crash
ET
Any of the Fast and Furious movies
Gravity
Any of the Hangover movies
Any of the Hunger Game movies
The Hurt Locker
It Happened One Night
LA Confidential
Any of the Meet the Fockers movies
North by Northwest
The Passion of the Christ
Repulsion
The Rules of the Game
Skyfall
Slumdog Millionaire
Any of the Spiderman movies
A Streetcar Named Desire
Sweet Smell of Success
Any of the Transformers movies
The Treasure of Sierra Madre
12 Years a Slave
Any of the Twilight movies
The Wrestler
I have seen bits and pieces of It’s a Wonderful Life, but never the whole thing. As a kid, I was always more interested in new versions of A Christmas Carol, or the Rankin-Bass claymation shows.
I have Sweet Smell of Success on my DVR. I got about 5 minutes into it, then got bored. I have not deleted it yet, and I intend to watch it. But not today.
I have Touch of Evil on my DVR. I got about 15 minutes into it, then shut it off. I grew up in a border town. I know the kind of stuff that goes on. I don’t need some city slicker lecturing me about how evil rednecks are. Maybe someday I will finish it. But not today.
I have seen the endings to both versions of Sweet Bird of Youth (Tennessee Williams wrote several alternate endings to the play, and I was curious to see which ones the filmmakers would choose). I never felt any urge to see the rest. I just don’t like Tennessee Williams. His plays remind me of every whiny theater student I knew in high school and college.
I have seen bits and pieces of The Godfather, Scarface, and Goodfellas, but in general, the gangster genre does not interest me. I loved Casino, which I am told is not one of the best.
Was never really interested in:
Midnight Cowboy
The Sound of Music
American Graffiti
The Lost Weekend
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Sunset Boulevard
Bonnie and Clyde
The Wild Bunch
Of the original list:
Braveheart - I just plain wasn’t interested and nothings changed since.
Schindler’s List - I will probably get around to this one, one day. But like the above, I’m kind of funny about biopics and historical tales. Plus this one is likely depressing and I spend enough time depressed for any three people.
Harry Potter - I tried the first one, couldn’t make it through. I couldn’t make it through the books either.
Harry Potter movies - saw the first, no real interest to see the others
Sound of music - fell fast asleep within 1st half hour. Wife and I were watching in bed after Easter (??) dinner and out like a light.
Schindler’s List - Just simply too difficult to watch, I imagine. I’m sure it’s an excellent movie, but no interest.
Casablanca - I’ve tried, but I just can’t stand Bogart.
For that same reason, I’ve vowed never to see Casablanca. (Similarly [strong visceral dislike, different reason] The Sound of Music.) In fact I’m not basically a “films person”, and tend to get extremely annoyed with pretentious, precious, posturing film-buffery. I’ve seen probably some 35% of the films on the OP’s list: some intentionally, some more or less by chance (such as, on television when I was staying with people).
I can get to feel very “anti” films, and unwilling to see them, for rather daft reasons. I was determined not to see The Shawshank Redemption because its title seemed to me to scream “portentous / look-at-me”. My thought was, what the hell is a shawshank, and how do you redeem it? – and I wasn’t interested enough to want to learn the answer. By an odd turn of events, I ended up basically being forced to watch that film (thus learning the significance of the title), and grudgingly admitted to finding it absorbing and moving.
From the list:
Gone with the Wind
Pulp Fiction
It’s a Wonderful Life
Schindler’s List
The Graduate
The Godfather
The Silence of the Lambs
Also:
Casablanca
The Shining
Citizen Kane
The Ten Commandments
Lawrence of Arabia
Rocky
Brazil
And loads more. Basically, when “The 100 Best Movies Ever That If You’ve Not Seen Them You’re An Under-Educated Peasant” lists come up, I usually have seen maybe 10 of them.
Gone With the Wind - Generally aware of the plot through others discussions, will probably watch it one day. For such an iconic movie, it’s never or rarely shown on television.
Sound of Music - have seen bits and pieces but not the whole thing. I’m generally aware of the plot from discussions others have had about it, and want to watch it one day.
Schindler’s List - It’s on my list and I plan on watching it soon.
Harry Potter Series - I saw the first 2 or 3, but none of the others.
The Graduate - Never saw it. Don’t know much about it.
The Shawshank Redemption - Read the SK story, was ok but not great. Would watch it if it was on tv and I was bored, but wouldn’t seek it out.
I haven’t watched anything on Astorian’s list.
Star Wars Yes, all of them
Gone with the Wind Yes
Pulp Fiction Yes
Titanic Yes
Jaws No. Don’t ask me why, I just haven’t.
Sound of Music Yes
Braveheart Yes
It’s a Wonderful Life Not the whole thing. Couldn’t stand it.
Ghostbusters Yes
Schindler’s List Yes
Harry Potter Series I didn’t see the last one.
The Graduate Yes
The Shawshank Redemption Yes
The Godfather Yes, all of them.
The Lion King No. I don’t have kids.
The Silence of the Lambs Yes
Of the above list, I have never seen -
Braveheart
Harry Potter Series
The Shawshank Redemption (though I read the novella)
Some other iconic movies I’ve haven’t seen -
Full Metal Jacket
The Bridge over the River Kwai (Never seen it all the way through, just bits & pieces)
Freaks
Any of Andy Warhol’s shorts
All the King’s Men
Pulp Fiction - most, but not all
Titanic - a few dribs and drabs - not interested in the least
Schindler’s List - I don’t think I’ve seen any of this
Harry Potter Series - dribs and drabs in passing - again, just not interested
The Shawshank Redemption - most, but not all
The Godfather - a few bits and pieces of maybe a couple of them
The Silence of the Lambs - I generally leave the room when this comes on - NOT interested
Pretty much all of the comic book-based movies have come and gone and I don’t care - are they considered iconic, or just popular?
Then again, I’m just not a big movie fan. There are few that I make an effort to see, some I’ll watch if I happen upon them, many that just don’t interest me.
That’s the wrong reason.
Star Wars- all of them
Gone with the Wind- once, just barely could sit through it. I like the book better
Pulp Fiction-yes
Titanic- many times, unfortunately. Ex-husband was obsessed
Jaws- yes
Sound of Music- yes
Braveheart- yes
It’s a Wonderful Life - yes and won’t ever watch again. Can’t stand it.
Ghostbusters- yes, many times. One of my favorites.
Schindler’s List- yes
Harry Potter Series- only part of the first one, fell asleep twice and never bothered with the rest
The Graduate- if I ever did see it I don’t remember it
The Shawshank Redemption- yes
The Godfather- see The Graduate
The Lion King - yes, several times. My sister worked at a movie theater when this came out.
The Silence of the Lambs- yes
All on the list but Titanic. Just no. There’s a boat. It sinks. It takes 3 hours. Everyone dies. The. end. No thank you. I have enough angst to deal with in my daily life.
I never saw:
Gone with the Wind
Titanic
Sound of Music
Braveheart
The Graduate
The Godfather
No mention of The Wizard of Oz?
I see no reason to watch or read anything related to Harry Potter.
When I was 9 years old, my parents took me to a theater showing of *Gone with the Wind. *All I remember was that it started at 9 pm, and they woke me up at 1 am, to go home. So I can’t honestly say I’ve seen it.
