Thanks…this is sort of what I thought but I didn’t want to seem completely ignorant. I did think that African countries were hard to define, but I was hoping that wasn’t the case. The idea that most of Africa’s architecture depends on mud is an interesting one.

Not all historic structures were built from mud

Sudan has many pyramids dotted throughout the country (although, if you want massive pyramids then you have to go to Egypt).

While further south you will find that there are many Christian monasteries in Ethiopia and Eritrea some of which stretch back to the 6th CE (Debre Damo, DebreBizen, Lalibela).

However the most iconic structures in these countries are their massive and numerous pre-christian Axumite obelisks.
