ID a 70s song

It was around 76-77 and it got FM play. Kind of a one hit wonder funk-proggy-heavy group.

The chorus went something like “See the light…dah dah dah… shine on me.” Like a funk rock single sound with a heavy bass line. And I’m pretty sure it was not Automatic Man.

Are you thinking of CCR’s cover of Midnight Special? The album Willy and the Poor Boys was released in 1969 but CCR was played widely on FM radio throughout the '70s.

Status Quo “Shine On Me” , maybe?

No and no. Think less famous by a lot. Totally a 70s thing.

Love Is The Answer by England Dan and John Ford Coley?

Or *Love is the Answer *by Todd Rundgren?

Dang posting from my phone! I thought it was Todd Rundgren, but ED&JFC was the first Google hit for “Love Is The Answer”.

England Dan Or Rundgren. Take your pick.

No. Not Todd. Or those guys. Someone who would only be known for that one LP and then gone from the radio.

It’s a real stomping kind of funky rock song with a strong bass presence, and maybe a black male vocal with those gospel influenced backing vox…

Are you thinking Shambala by Three Dog Night?

Doesn’t exactly match the lyric you supplied but these things have a tendency to get a bit mixed up.

No that’s famous. This is an obscure band.

Totally a stab in the dark, the Jaggerz’s Shine on Me? (which is either a trad. cover, or a cover of Blind Willie Johnson).

You mean “The Rapper” group? No. That song is “Turn on your love light” I think by Bobby Blue Bland? Has been covered a zillion times.

This band was a studio band like Automatic Man or Dazz or Pablo Cruise or something, that late 70s thing that was big before punk and new wave. Lots of BG vox.

Something like :

1See the light…
(Ooohhh See the light)

2See the light (Yeah see the light)

3See the light…

4Shine on me.

With a real heavy obvious bass line dividing the lines and coming strong at last line…
The lyrics are approximate.

i googled it and I found two other threads of someone looking for a 70s shine light song, and they weren’t me either. And there was never a good answer.

I always took it for granted that it was them. But it's not and here I am wondering.
