I'd like to buy someone a pair of Enchroma glasses.

I’m so sorry that they didn’t work for that well for you Ascenray. I know that Isamu noted a distinct difference in reds and some greens but I’ll let him chime in and contribute more of his experience if he wants to.

I’ve messaged Loach to see if he is still interested in having his brother try them. If he’s not interested, then anybody that wants to try them is welcome to.

I would certainly be interested in trying, but wouldn’t want to butt in line. I tested as a mild protan on their site, which they claim their lenses are well-suited for.

My general experience is that greens and browns are hard to distinguish, certain blues and purples are hard to distinguish, and I often have trouble telling the difference between grays and faded colors.

It’s not too life-alternating, but I am a photographer (occasionally shooting professionally), and I do find the editing process a lot more stressful because I can’t perceive fine color details.

OK. If Loach’s brother isn’t interested, you can be next up.

I haven’t heard from Loach, so if you want the glasses next, please get with Ascenray and work out the shipping details.

I bought the Pilestone, a much cheaper version of the Enchroma, but reportedly as good. my BF’s son, ten year old, loved them, althoug the difference was subtle. Enough to wear it in class though, he gets better grades that way. A lot of class and test material should be adapted for color blindness, but the school forgets.

That’s interesting. I didn’t know that there was a “generic” version.

I put a spare Pilestone in my “box of wonderful things”. If I ever have red/green blind visitors, I plan to ask them to try it on.

I’ve even advertised on Craigslist that people can come to my home and try the Piliestone on, with a gift of whatever they want to avoid for charity. So far no takers. Too bad, I would have loved to see people try it for the first time.

On the Dutch craigslist, there is a similar ad for a guy a few counties over who offers the same deal with a pair of Enchroma. So far no takers.

Wow - I had no idea they existed at a lower than $300 price - looks like a useful thing to keep in mind.

All I could see is a bunch of blue squares. Try this?

To me, the green in that set is still too ambiguous. I’m fine with the other six.

Shipped out to Typoink today!

Today I lent my Pilestone to the brother of a good friend of mine. He is an optician and has his own opticians’s shop. He had never heard of Enchroma and I don’t think he appreciated what I gave him.
But if he does some research, he will. Anyway, the glasses are more likely to do good in his shop, with him advertising for people to come try them out, then the glasses do sitting in my closet.

I think I just sent a very confusing PM to Typo Ink instead of typoink.

Could this be typoink?

That guy is supposedly completely color-blind and the glasses worked for him. I can’t believe it had no effect on my mild deutan-ness

It makes me wonder if there are different causes of color blindness.

There are.

I’m just sad and disappointed.

Any updates?

My youngest brother is a deutan, and nearsighted too. We found out when I was decorating the family Christmas tree and Kev mentioned that there were too many orange lights in one spot. We were confounded and my mother asked him to go touch each orange light. He touched green ones and red ones along with the orange. He touched no blue, purple, pink, or red lights. As a result, he has learned to ask for help when clothes or furniture shopping. I would love the opportunity for him to try these just to have a better idea of the differences between what he sees and what I see. I guess I want him to know why painting appeals to me while sculpture is the only art that appeals to him.
