I have started three threads in this forum that are all titled very similarly. I’ve listed the titles and dates I started these threads below:
Feedback from me after 24 hours - 05-20-2010
Looking for some Help, Please - 05-16-2010
Looking for some Advice - 05-13-2010
I’d like to delete these because at this time, they don’t really contribute anything to this forum and are just kind of “clutter”.
I have learned that when posting a new thread in this forum, I need to post the exact reason for starting the thread in the Title so that if the thread was of help to me, it may be of help to others as well.
I have also started some other threads but I want to leave them because I think they are about something that may be of help to people who may have the same or a similar problem.
By the way, if you can delete these three threads, please also delete this one and I will be more careful in the future to write the titles of my threads in such a way that they don’t have to be deleted after the issue is solved. Thank you.
I think the best your going to get is to have them locked (one of them already was). The SD staff very very very rarely deletes a thread. I reported two of them and the third was already locked. You can’t report your own post, so if you want this one locked as well, click the little red “Report this post” button my my post and tell them you want it locked.
Actually, as of recently, you can, in fact, report your own posts. And I don’t think it’s really necessary to delete the threads (or even lock them). If they’re inactive, they’ll drop off the front page soon enough.
I’m sorry, but we don’t delete threads in cases like this. All three of those threads seem fairly inactive, and will probably die a natural death and drop off the the front page. It’s the circle of life.
If you like, I’ll lock them for you. But I don’t really think it’s necessary.
We don’t generally lock threads unless there’s a reason to (believe it or not). If the thread’s not active, it will drop off the front page after 24 hours and not clutter anything. I’m glad you’ve learned the lesson about making thread titles specific – keep that in mind going forward, and don’t worry about revising history.
One thing I think you’ll learn, and like, about the culture here is that people are expected to stand behind their words and posting history. It is the reason editing posts (after 5 minutes) , deleting individual posts or threads or creating sock (additional) accounts are not allowed.
In rare and special circumstances threads or posts will be deleted, or mods will edit for you after the 5 minute mark (mostly to fixing coding/links error and the like).
The hope is to create a culture where, despite being an anonymous message board, people put thought into their posts and expect to live with their words. It really does make this place an exceptionally interesting place to post.
