ID these comedy sketches

Back in my college days (mid-80’s-ish), my roommate and I were on a road trip. One of the tapes that he brought along for the trip was a mishmash of stuff that he had recorded off the radio, including several comedy sketches. There are two that I remember from that tape that I’ve always wondered who they were.

The first sketch was a couple of British sounding guys having drinks at their club. Throughout the course of the sketch, you figure out that each one is sleeping with the other one’s wife. One of the guys sounds a little bit like Peter Cook, but I’m not sure it is, or if the guys were actually even British. One line I remember is one accusing the other of smelling like his wife’s perfume. “Is that Tondeleo? You’re positively reeking of it!”

The second one was about some old couple living in a cabin out in the wilderness, and it’s Christmas Eve and there’s a blizzard. The old man grumbles and complains a lot and the woman says in this high whiny voice “But it’s Christmas Eve!” At some point an Indian comes by to visit, and I think there may be another visitor during the sketch but I don’t remember for sure. And to be honest I don’t remember the point of the sketch, just the setting mostly.

So yeah, not much to go on other than vague memories. But I’d love to know what these were, and if there are links to them somewhere, that would be even better.

Hudson and Landry did a sketch like this, “Sir Basil.” But I don’t remember the line about the wife’s perfume. You might look for it on YouTube.

If it was Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (aka “Derek and Clive”), every other word have been “fucking” or “cunt.”

WAG: It was a parody of Little House on the Prairie with Pa and Ma Ingalls as empty nesters. Sounds like something that might have been done on SNL.

No particular reason for this; it was just the first thing that came to mind.

Or maybe Bizarre.

It’s interesting that you mention Hudson and Landry. My dad had one or two of their albums when I was growing up, and one thing I remember about those albums is that they had a very distinctive laugh track in the background. And I remember that this sketch had a similar laugh track, which made me wonder if it was H&L.

And just in case it wasn’t clear in my OP, these were both audio only – I don’t think they came from TV comedy sketches.

Ok I found “Sir Basil” on YouTube and yes, that is it!

One down, one to go.

You’re sure they weren’t taped off the air?

BTW, I’m pretty sure H&L’s sketches were performed before a live audience in what sounded like a very small nightclub.

One passage from “Sir Basil” that I remember is

“Oh, let’s get down to the Khyber Rifles! Have you been seeing Cesily?”

“Cesily, Sir Basil?”

“Yes. My wife.”

“Your wife, Sir Basil?”

And the very last line after they agree to go away together is

“Splendid! We’ll make it a foursome!”

EDIT: Glad you found it!

Or maybe Cecily? :dubious:

Actually no, Derek and Clive were only a small part of Pete and Dudley’ work. There’s a LOT of stuff kind of like the sketches described.
