I read a science fiction book about 15 years ago that had an insect protagonist, and I cannot remember the name of the book.
Basically this creature was part of an army that was invading some other planet. The society of this creature produced large broods of identical individuals in different generations. So which generation you were part of was important. Also the protagonist was trained to be a military officer.
They approached this planet in an extremely large vessel full of smaller craft that held a few individuals. There was a big description of the large craft, etc. Eventually the protagonist landed on the planet and there was a lot of hunting around, etc.
Does anyone have memory of such a thing?
