I’m sitting here holding a ribbon that one of my soldiers had in his room. He has no idea what it is, and neither do I. My assumption is that it’s a US Military ribbon because of it’s size and shape, but I could be wrong.
From left to right, I’ll name the colors. Like most every ribbon, the stripes are vertical and the ribbon is semetrical.
The colors are:
Navy Blue, Gold, Maroon, Dark Forest Green, Maroon, Gold, Navy Blue
The First and last three stripes take up 25% of the ribbon each. That is, the group of three takes up 25%. The Dark Forest Green occupies the remaining 50% in the middle of the ribbon.
Anyone have any idea what this ribbon is???
Did it look like this:

Unit commendation from the navy/mairines. The guy was in a boni fide “real” battle. Ask him about it, maybe it will jog his memory and give you an insite into a far gone era.
Awesome, thanks!!! I had a feeling it was a Marine commendation. I was sure I had seen it before, and now I know I had. My buddy back home wore one. He was a Marine.
The particular soldier who brought me the ribbon… he’s never been in anything. It’s most definitely not his ribbon. And he’s not even sure where he got it.
Thanks again.
BTW, did you recognize it from the colors, or did you just go looking for ribbons on google?
I looked on google for about 10 minutes before posting.
My dad has one with “battle” stars on them, and yes I did google to make sure I had it right.
After the first one, they gave out little bronze stars (for one battle) or silver stars (for 5 battles) instead of giving out additional ribbons. My dad had seven. But one is still cool.
