So, earlier this week, I was at a hotel resort-spa in California, and was attending a yoga class…small class, maybe 8 students. So I couldn’t help but overhear some of the conversation between one of the other students and his girlfriend, in which he used the words “bullpen” and “long toss” and talked about his workout regimen “on days when I’m starting”. So my ears pricked up a bit.
After the class the instructor asked if he was a runner, and he said no, he played baseball; and she asked how tall he was – 6’8". And he also said that he was just getting out of LA for a few days.
So we know he’s a starting pitcher, 6’8", and either plays in LA or lives there in the off-season (not much help). He also has a neatly-trimmed beard, but that could’ve been grown since the season ended.
And we can eliminate the Cardinals and Red Sox, since this was during the World Series.
None of the Dodgers’ pitchers are over 6’5". Jered Weaver of the LA/Anaheim Angels is listed at 6’7" and is a starting pitcher - he’s an extremely talented pitcher so a google image search could give you lots of good looks at him.
The guy I’m going to suggest is NOT currently a major leaguer, but he’s worth considering.
Dustin Nippert is 6’8" tall, 32 years old, has brown hair and wears a short beard, and he used to be a long reliever for both the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. He wasn’t that successful, and washed out of major league ball.
He’s originally from West Virginia and grew up in Ohio. He never played in Los Angeles.
BUT…
After leaving MLB, he became a successful pitcher in Korea. If he lives in Korea during baseball season, it seems logical he’d keep a home in California the rest of the time.
