Ideas for a company "chinese gift exchange"?

This is a very tight knit team working company. Our unofficial motto is “work hard/play hard…drink BEEEEEER”.

So this isn’t some stuffy “I have to go” type thing. I"m hoping for some creative $10 dollar limit gift ideas. Not beer oriented ones please, we’ll all be BYOBs.

Thanks in advance!!

First order of business is to change the name!!

What else can you tell us about your work culture, besides that you’re drinkers but you can’t give beer?

Howzabout something from despair.com?

Change which name? Oh we’re allowed to give beer, I just wanted something unique, there will be PLENTY of beer and other refreshments at the party!

I was hoping for something clever and funny, but my imagination is just shot right now.

Is this a “white elephant” kind of thing?

I don’t know what white elephant is, other than in the real estate lingo it’s a house no one wants.

It’s even called chinese gift exchange by our Hawaii branch, many of whom are chinese. I didn’t know that was a non-pc thing.

But it’s a “steal away” type game with inexpensive presents, where you draw a number etc…

A ‘Chinese gift exchange’ as I know it is this thing where everyone brings a present and then draws a number (based on how many people brought presents). The first one gets up, picks a gift and opens it. The second person gets up and picks a gift, they get to either trade for the first one or open the one they picked. As more people get to pick, whoever has the unopened present keeps choosing (though not the one just taken from them) or opening the new present.

It can be quite fun to watch.

Sorry I can’t hep with picking something though, I’ve never been good at picking presents for stuff like this.

We have a Secret Santa every Christmas at work. Luckily I have discovered a jewellery shop that sells lots of novel things for $10 - 20. So far I have got 2 business card cases, a set of cufflinks shaped like motorbikes, a tie clip, a money clip and from somewhere else a chocolate making kit (moulds etc). All were well received and I still see them being used…well not the chocolate kit (although she did bring in a few batchs).

Beer drinkers, eh?

Put together in a gift basket:

One condom.
One pack of Beano.
Breath mints.
One pair of men’s undershorts, waist size 52.
One porno tape/DVD/magazine
Alka Seltzer

CDs
Picture Frames
Books
Gift Certificate for Lunch in the area
Alaska? A scarf
Gift Certificate for a gas station (?)
Some sort of game
Gift Certificate for Blockbuster

Magic 8 Ball.

Hey, CanvasShoes, head down to that sex shop on 5th Ave, down past the Kodiak Cafe. I would suspect a gift purchased there would be fairly unique.

Are gag gifts allowed?
I brought a chia pet to one of my exchanges.

See my previous posting.

Or, as it is called in The Office: Yankee Swap.

Just hope no one buys someone else an iPod. :stuck_out_tongue:

We always call it Dirty Santa 'round these parts.

We just had ours on Thursday and one of those “just a joystick” video games that plugs right into the t.v. was the biggest hit of the evening.

I think you can get them in Frogger and Pac Man and … Wheel of Fortune for some unChristly reason.

I’ve seen them at Kohl’s.

Myself, I brought a Fart Machine. (remote controlled, you can hide it in a chair and embarrass yer gramma)
