Peacekeeping missions in the Gamma Quadrant, after the balkanization of the Dominion following their loss in the Dominion War.
I like the idea of doing a “lower decks” type thing, with a bunch of people on a Star Ship that aren’t at the top of the command hierarchy. I was hoping that was what the latest movie would be, with us seeing Kirk and friends when they were just ensigns. But apparently Kirk can’t set foot on a Starship without someone declaring him captain within the first five minutes.
A character I think would be interesting: a human raised in an Earth cult that teaches Vulcan emotional control/logic/etc., though they might need an actual Vulcan to accomplish mind melding.
“MLP:FIM”? WTF does that stand for?
The Adventures of Gary Seven!
Too bad it didn’t pan out on the first try.
Cool.
My Little Pony; Friendship is Magic I believe.
Something like TNG; based on but distinct from the Original series. Taking place in an expansionist Federation 100 year after the Dominion War where the the Enterprise G’s adventures show in in COIN, pacification and moppuing up operations.
Ugh. No more Enterprises. There are other ships.
So, Battlestar Galactica?
Orion space freighter trying to make ends meet during the first series. They would encounter things related to TOS throughout their run. Stop at a station with Cyrano Jones collecting tribbles. Encounter Harry Mudd and his androids and or Sex Ladies™.
Make a delivery to the Daystrom Institute and almost get killed by a malfunctioning M4 unit. Be getting chased by a Klingon as the Organian Peace Treaty goes into effect and the chasing ship’s disrupters can’t fire.
If you’ll excuse me, I need to tend to this nerd-boner.
I love the idea of stories that take place during the various “everything, everywhere” events of other stories.
“I was sitting there, talking to this Husnock dude, and bam! he just drops dead. Crazy, man.”
Don’t forget rubbing lots of decontamination gel all over each other.
I’ll be in my bunk.
Bryan Singer once pitched a new Star Trek series that I sorely wished had got off the ground. It was to be set well after Star Trek - The Next Generation in a time when the Federation has grown large and unwieldy. Like the Roman Empire before it, cracks are beginning to develop and the unity that once was is lost. The Golden Age of expansion has passed in both exploration and scientific achievement. But even with this contraction, a new race of aliens is encountered. A race who is hungry for territory and resources. They are barbarians at the gates of the Federation’s Empire.
An operative from the Obsidian Order tries to balance the demands of work with those of raising several teenage daughters. The title is Keeping up with the Cardassians.
I want to see a Borg movie. Not Kirk vs the Cube or anything, just two hours of seeing the universe being inexorably assimilated. Having Picard stand up to them a la Samuel L Jackson in Deep Blue Sea would be an added bonus.
I’d love to see a new Trek series, but I’m betting anything it’ll never happen. The series, until J.J. Abrams picked up the reboot, was dying a slow, slow death.
I have to admit, although I love Original Spock, I’m a fan of NuSpock as well. Zachary Quinto sort of sealed it for me with his delivery in the scene where Spock faces the Vulcan Science academy. It was like when he said, “Live Long and Prosper”, he was actually saying “Eff you”.
My dream for the new ST series…IT"S set 50 years after the events in the Star Trek comic book prequel for the last movie, in TNG universe. Advances in warp technology enable Starfleet to travel to nearby galaxies. The crew would include Naomi Wildman as Captain, Nog as first officer, Alexander Rozhenko (who cleaned up his act) or a Jem 'Hedar as security chief, Icheb as the Science Officer, and a slightly Xenophobic Cardassian as Ships Doctor as well as a role for either Tuvok or another Vulcan. Oh and Siskio would be the President of The Federation. I addition to exploring other galaxies, there would also be stories about displaced Romulans who still blame the Federation for the destruction of Romulus, The Dominion who may or may not be allies and the Breen, who I always found interesting, as a major enemy.
Enough with the prequels. The Star Trek universe is big enough to have a big series with a truly massive scope and some proper hard science fiction. Characters could be drawn from admirals back on Earth to several ships, rather than just one ship and it’s crew. A big war, lots of politics, a bit like The Wire in space. Trekkies will of course hate it passionately. But it’ll be awesome. And will never never happen.
