Ideas for a new Star Trek series

The Jem’Hadar dependence on ketracel-white isn’t something that can go away easily…they were genetically engineered to physically require it, because, on top of the narcotic effects (which, honestly, are gilding the lily and I suspect a result of the writers not thinking the concept through thoroughly), it provided an enzyme their bodies couldn’t produce. It would require genetic alterations that have yet to be successfully done.

With the collapse of the Dominion, I suspect production of white would fall into the hands of the Jem’Hadar themselves.

In Star Trek: Online, the future has become quadrant wide open warfare.

Reman research into subspace weapons caused a star to explode with FTL-propagation effects, destroying Romulus. (To explain what was seen in 2009’s Star Trek.) The remaining surviving Romulans and Remans are predominately those who were in military service. In the power vacuum, civil war breaks out.

Meanwhile, species 8472, which has shape-changer abilities, apparently, has been infiltrating the highest levels of all the Alpha quadrant civilisations, and creating disscord. (Something the Dominion shapechangers of DS9 tried to do, but they didn’t have the numbers for it, I guess.) The Klingons outright conquer the Gorn due to the level of infiltration within the Gorn governments. War has also broken out between the Klingons (and their allied or subject races) and the Federation, but I forget why.

The Borg recover from whatever Janeway did to them at the end of the Voyager series, and are mounting assaults against the Alpha quadrant. Also, some faction within the Romulan sector was able to contact the Hirogen, and provided them some logistic support, so now the Hirogen have sent a few fleets over to the Alpha Quandrant for some good hunting.

There are significant numbers of former Cardassian and Obsidian Order types that do not accept the cease fire of the Dominion War, and have a guerilla war going on in the Cardassian sector.

The Empire of the Mirror Mirror universe is launching “reconnaissance in force” probes into ours.

All of these events happening simultaneously has caused the Federation to become overstretched, and more “minor” races (like the Breen, Naussicans or the Orions) see this as an opportunity to be more aggressive, either towards there immediate neighbors, or towards the Feds. This has lead to increased piracy and other lawlessness, and a reduction of trade in the Alpha quadrant. As the Federation/Starfleet becomes more and more stretched thin, some folks are finding it more difficult (either logistically, or emotionally) to stay true to the highminded ideals of the Federation of Picard’s time.

I’d be up for aliens that aren’t basically humans with a wierd patch of skull meat or an odd haircut.

There’s a series of books on Section 31 which I think would make a good basis for the series.

Let’s face it, the reason why there’s a big disconnect between TOS and TNG/DS9/VOY and even Enterprise is that TOS was in the 60’s and the other 4 series were done pretty much consecutively or concurrently from the 90’s to now. That’s why even ENT was so similar to the previous 3 series. Everything from ship design to uniforms were closer to Picard’s generation than Kirk’s.

If another series were to be done this soon, it would be a bad idea to skip around the timeline too much. When Archer’s timeline looks more like Picard’s than Kirk’s, there’s a problem that I don’t think they current crop of writers and producers can overcome. And why should they? They grew up with TOS but reimagined it with the next 4 series. We’re not going back to flipping switches and pushing buttons anymore, so it would be a total waste to try.

The Section 31 offers an expansion of the current timeline from a point of view that isn’t in the previous series. They can get really nitty-gritty here, show them assassinating people, ignoring the Prime Directive, eliminating enemies ruthlessly, etc. Plus, you can insert background explanations on things we’ve already seen. Maybe Section 31 had a hand in arming the Marquis against the Cardassians. Maybe they’ve executed many admirals for possible infiltration by the Changelings. Maybe they fly around on a Pegasus-type cloaked, phased ship

Because the Feds want to try to negotiate peace with the Undine (Species 8471), whereas the Klingons just want to crush them.

Ah. Thanks!

TOS was about exploration.
As they say at the beginning of each episode; “…to explore new worlds and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.”

Not quite the same.

On another note. I recently read that scientists have successfully been able to cloak a time event. Granted it was only for 40 trillionths of a second, but it was done. Who knows how far cloaking technology will go, but it seems to me that we will likely have cloaking technology long before we have warp drive technology. As such the entire Star Trek series will have to be re-done where the federation ships have cloaking devices just like the Romulans and Klingons.

Someone mentioned the Arcturians. No one wants to see some sort of …cloned troopers, do they? Though I’ll support anything that gives me more Gorn. I love them lizard guys.

Personally, I’ve always wanted more Tholians. What’s not to love about floating fire crystals with an inferiority complex? The Tholian web could totally be updated with modern CGI into something really devastating
