Ideas Needed for a Library Themed Wedding

Check out the bridesmaids!”

Hee, hee.

At a wedding I attended recently, someone provided the couple with a nice new hard-backed dictionary. The guests were then asked to choose a word that made them think of the wedding pair, turn to the proper page in the dictionary (a hardship for some of us), and write a message on that page. The bride and groom apparently play word games a lot so are forever looking things up in the dictionary–the idea being that they will keep stumbling upon these words and people’s messages to them.

I realize the writing-in-a-book thing is anathema to any self-respecting librarian. But maybe gently. In the margins. With pencil.

I opened this thread because I thought, correctly it would cheer me up. I have no ideas that haven’t been shared - unless you can put a collection of images of the two of you onto microfilm/fiche and have a reader at the reception.

But now I’m intrigued. I’ve never heard anything about cookies at Pittsburgh weddings. What’s the scoop?

And happy wedding to NotherYinzer!

have the officiant ask, ‘would you like to check out?’

That’d be the cookie table
For the wedding, what about tables named after famous librarians.?

I wanted to come up with an idea related to Ranganathan’s 5 laws of library science, but haven’t managed anything yet.

I like this quote of Evelyn Carnahan, from The Mummy I loved how she said it, as she was intoxicated at the time.

*Evelyn: Look, I… I may not be an explorer, or an adventurer, or a treasure-seeker, or a gunfighter, Mr. O’Connell, but I am proud of what I am.
Rick: And what is that?
Evelyn: I… am a librarian. *

Maybe at the reception a speaker could talk about being proud of what you are.

This is a great idea too!

Gotta say, this is my favorite so far. The fines could go towards our honeymoon trip!

You guys are really coming through. I like a lot of these ideas and will be trying to fit them in as best I can.

Silver Crow Creations has some library supplies: Welcome to SilverCrow Creations - for the artistically inclined & the artistically challenged . Check out the other categories, they have the old fashioned book check out cards.

Thought of this last night - at several weddings I’ve been to there’s been some way to convey well wishes to the bride and groom such as a scrapbook to write in or a board to sign.

You could have guests write their greetings on card catalog cards with a drawer there for ambiance.

Oh, and thank you ** Lsura** for the link. I’d already gone off googling. I love to bake cookies. Now I have to make friends with some Pittsburgh brides.

Depending on your budget, you might make a donation to your local Friends of the Library in exchange for tote bags for your wedding party gifts. They may also have old catalog cards that you can have.

I do like the dictionary idea has a bar/bat mitzvah or graduation gift. I’ll have to remember that.
