My mother died a while back and recently while going through some her stuff, I found some stock certificates for National Producers Life Insurance Company. It has no address other than Phoenix, Arizona and the statement “An Old Line Legal Reserve Insurance Company.”
They actually list shares and certificate numbers. They date from the mid 1960s.
I did a search on “National Producers Life” and found nothing.
I don’t know how to proceed with this. Does anyone have any suggestions.
A stockbroker can look it up, though they’ll probably charge a fee. Still, there’s a chance the company was bought up by another and you may be able to trade the certificate for the new company’s stock.
If you want to do the research yourself, you could visit a business library. This link gives a list of references:

Call the insurance commissioner of the state where the company was located. If they went under and were assumed by another company the insurance commissioner may be able to give you info. I used to work for an insurance company and worked on several assumptions but never dealt with the stock side of things only the policy related stuff.
