Identify a song (again)

At a Robert Randolph concert last night. He started off the set with a very well known song intro, the name of which (and the group that did it) I’m drawing a blank on. It seems sort of AC/DC-like to me and I’ll try to describe it. The intro is mostly vocal, punctuated by pairs of power chord strokes. The vocals ascend the scale, then descend. At the end of each da-da, da-da, da-da, da-daaaaah, going first up, then down, the two guitar strokes are played. That’s all I’ve got, other than my brain is telling me there are words in there that may rhyme with “matches” or “batches”. Lame, I know.

Dude! No clue. I Googled “Robert Randolph Portland setlist” and found this:

Are you sure it wasn’t the intro to AC/DC’s Thunderstruck?

War Pigs? Black Sabbath ~ War Pigs - YouTube

Bingo. Thanks, it was driving me nuts. The sad part is that I learned the guitar part of the song some months ago. :smack: I think the volume of the concert melted those brain cells.

Witches playing with their matches

Frying up delicious batches

Well, “masses” sort of rhymes with “matches”, dunnit?

It’s surely better than rhyming masses with masses

I went back and scanned Chefguy’s OP attempt. Damn, that’s impressive that you figured that out! That’s 1 Doper Bonus Point for you.

While I don’t doubt the OP’s sincerity, I’m kind of shocked anyone who knows the song could blank on “War Pigs.” It’s one of the most iconic and distinctive songs even in Black Sabbath’s catalog, let alone in the history of music.

^ In the history of music? Not even in the top 500.

Thanks. It was dumb luck, though. I’m about the least metal person around. For some reason that song just occupies a little corner of my brain.

Its kinda funny that it turned out to be that. When I read the OP this morning and saw acdc and the da-da da-da’s I was going to ask him to rule out Crazy Train.

I’ve never been a fan, if that’s any help. Learning the guitar riffs with my teacher was just an exercise for me, not a fan wank. That said, I should have known it just from the opening riffs by RR. But he quickly segued into Voodoo Chile and as I said the volume was deafening in that venue.
